Default EGR valve advice if available

Hey guys i'm hoping some one might know the location of the fuse and or relay feeding the EGR valve on an 09 XF S/C..Valve is in good shape and has been removed and cleaned. Still getting P0401 on the scan. Would like to check fuses before buying new one.

More than likely if the ports are clear the solenoid is gone or going out. Given the fact its an 09 and the harsh conditions the EGR valve must endure, I'm betting it's just gone.

Cheers Bigg Will! I wanted to check all options before buying new one. Guess they wear out quicker when clogged. I did find a lot of carbon build up. To the point that the floater was stuck. Not sure if open or closed but clear now..Will let you know when i install new one if it fixes the issue..

Did you make sure the port on the intake adapter is clear as well?

JBzXJ40....Are you referring to the pipe leading to exhaust by chance?

The MAP sensor monitors EGR function. As part of EGR monitoring the computer commands EGR full on during deceleration (when driveability isn't affected). The MAP sensor looks for a pressure pulse and if it's there the monitor will set good. If not, an EGR code will be logged and the monitor won't set.

I was getting EGR codes and determined the problem was in the MAP wiring (not getting a signal). Once repaired, the issue went away. Note that the EGR and MAP ports are adjacent in intake elbow.

With a scanner the MAP outputs can be monitored - that's how I isolated the problem.

Thanks, check the wiring and connector around the MAP sensor carefully. The harness there was made way too short and the connector and sensor can't easily be seen even when everything is stripped down for access.

I'm thinking that when someone was doing a repair on my car (before I bought it) they jerked up on the intake elbow and broke the connector and wiring without knowing the MAP sensor was there. There was plenty of evidence that someone had been working in that area.

Also, check the wiring diagrams (posted on Jag Repair) and verify that all three MAP sensor wires are in the correct orientation.

My MAP sensor itself was fine and is still in use.

gm-jim.. Got the new MAP sensor installed that code has gone along with trim bank 1and bank 2. Happy about that. Still getting the EGR valve code sadly..Guess i'll have to get new one of those too.Not a big deal to replace..Took me an hour last time to remove and clean..Q..could it be as simple as the fuse or relay for that component?

A bad fuse or relay rendering EGR inoperative would set codes. I haven't needed to delve into those areas. Wiring schematics and fuse and relay association charts might provide clues on where to check.

Hi gm_jim.. So i found a used (only 2 year old EGR valve from a scrap yard $30..) and installed it. Works perfect. Very relieved to say the least. Wasn't eager to mess with electrics. I took a decent drive with hills and what do you know. RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE. No engine light or codes when checked so now what???..I decided i best try a coolant flush and low and behold. Some sirry irriot had put different colour coolant in.(green and orange) Did the flush refilled with top shelf coolant mixed with distilled water and seemed to have solved it. Lots of bleeding needed. She runs much better..
