Default Electronic Glovebox Fault

Hi All. Please can anyone help me. My XF's glovebox won"t open by trying the normal way of opening it, so I was hoping someone could advise me of how to access this in an emergency. Thanks.

I expect you know this, but assuming this is one with the touch sensitive 'button' - it's not very sensitive... My dealer showed me that if you use your nail rather than the pad of your finger it works much, much better... Worth a try (I know this doesn't answer your actual question, but hopefully this helps)

I am also assuming you have an early model year (2009 or 2010) because I think they changed the design after so many people were having problems with it. I read elsewhere on the forum that you have to keep in mind, it is not to be a swipe, but to aim and move your finger directly at the rondel (?) head on, not from side to side. After using this method, it works every time for me.

I've never had an issue with the glove box. Sometimes it's difficult finding the right spot at night however.

It actually works via static electricity (dealer told me that) and he said if it doesn't work to just scoot your feet on the floor/mat a couple of times then do it.. Mine has never not worked though

I had the same issue with my '10SC. Dealer had a TSB on it and replaced the switch under warranty.

Hope that helps.

It is designed not to open if you move your finger tip sideways even a tiny bit. It is a "touch" switch and not a "swipe" switch.

You must touch the roundel on the centre and it should pop open. If you are off centre or move your finger tip sideways at all it will not open.

The new push button switch is a disappointingly boring result of auto journalists and car salesmen who don't know what they're doing.

I was told that you had to have your finger vertical on the button. Kind of hard when leaning over from the driver's seat.

Use your fingernail…..works every time ! Except at night, when it is hard to find……this is why I added a logo on the dash right above the switch so I can find it in the dark.
