>My understanding is that after 2012, Jaguar didn't offer V8's in normal line up
Actually, I believe that 2013 was the last year with the NA 5.0.
But year designations are not uniform across the globe so they might have been considered 2012 in some countries but 2013s in others.

He loved to drive his Jaguar...
So welcome to the machine

Test drove a 2012 V8.. beautiful growl and overall feeling. Just loved it.
3.0 L SC has more than enough power and I still consider it as one of the options ( better deal, better warranty etc etc) but V8 throttle response and overall drive is just great. Tough competition for my modified E36 M3![Icon Worthy](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_worthy.gif)
Another reason I can think of to have a V6 is that, Jaguar has decided to go with V6 & no more V8's in 2013 and later models, which makes V6 a desired option for long term usage?

Look at the new X260 XF. You can't buy a V8 in that car AT ALL. Doesn't mean that it isn't a superior engine, it just means that buyers tend to lean toward smaller, seemingly more fuel efficient motors.
By design, V8's tend to be very reliable long-terms engines. The low-end torque usually keeps drivers from wringing the engines out which adds longevity to it's life-cycle. A V6 with torque higher in the rev-range is going to require a heavier foot to get the same response.
LONG LIVE THE V8!!!

Are you buying this car to enjoy now, or to speculate what might happen in the collector market in the future?

>but just because they scrapped it this year doesnt mean they dont have plans for it later.
Yes, and consider that the block size of the V6 is exactly the same as the V8 so there is enough room in the front of XFs and XEs for the larger engine.
(The 3.0 engine block is 5.0 with the rear two cylinders plugged).

I test drove 2013 and 2014 XFs yesterday (Saturday). I went in assuming I'd only like the V6, but came away pretty surprised by what the 4cyl had to offer. To me it really felt spry. So much so that I'm now a bit confused on which engine I want. I like the lower price point with the 4cyl, but at the end of the day I think it'll be the V6 AWD that triumphs.
Overall, I loved the cars. I understand some folks scratch their head with the whole 4cyl and Jaguar thing, but I do understand why they did it and after driving it feel that they did a great job. At any rate, I'm really excited to upgrade from my X-Type.
