The short answer to your question is a simple 'yes'. There are differences between the motors in the entire product line even though they share the same engine model designation. The engine from the Range Rovers have a considerably different pulley and accessories setup than the Jaguars.

The older AJ34S did not have variable valve timing and the engines produced after 2006 are equipped with variable valve timing. With this change, there were modifications to the ECU and TCU mapping to account for the active timing.

The XJR and S-Type R were only equipped with a single MAP sensor and airbox while the engine in the XF was equipped with a dual MAF and airbox setup. The communication interface in the XF is also different than that in the older XJR's and S-Type R's. The XKR shared the older ECU can wiring setup with the XJR and S-Type R until they changed over to the newer body style.

Although you might, and I stress the word might, be able to make the newer engines with variable valve timing from the other models work, it would be safest to find a donor motor from a similar XF Supercharged.
