Default Expansion Tank

good morning .... I have a 2013 X250 I'm getting a 'low coolant level' warning but the coolant level isn't low. Car isn't overheating tho so that's good. Dealership is saying I need a new expansion tank. $405 usd has anyone else experiences this?

It is common on the 2009 for the float in the tank to stop working but there hasn't been many complaining about other years. Check to see if the float in the expansion tank is working.

I purchased an original Jaguar OEM expansion tank brand new on ebay for $112. Apparently the SC one is different to the non-SC one, but the one I got said it was for an S-type R, but fitted like a glove and had the same part number as the XFSC one. Installation was trivial, just have one of those tube squeezing tools to stop any coolant leakage from the block. It took all of 20 minutes. It is an easy DIY. $405 is just nuts. FYI The local Jaguar dealer quoted me $230 all in to do the job.

I have gone through 3 tanks now. The 4.2L SC (XF and S-type R) have a different coolant tank vs. all the other XF engines and it's about double the cost.

The top nipple breaks due to the engine rocking when revved. I added extra hose and looped it around so the engine no longer pulls on the top nipple.

Interesting. I had that happen two times on my older S-types, but with the XF the issues I and most posted seem to report is the sinking float switch, which triggers a false coolant low message.
