A few questions on the new XF

Getting accustomed to my '09 XF Premium, but I'm trying to figure out a few things:
1) On the back-up camera, is there a way to turn on guidance lines?
2) Whenever I'm pulling in somewhere (mainly on the front, I notice), the parking sensors aren't working. There's no parking aid alert on the screen, nor any beeping noise. Is that a fluke or do I need to check to see if something is on?
3) Had my first ounce of car trouble last night. Driving home, about 25MPH through town, and the car is going 7000 RPM (and sounds like it, too). I had to pull over, shut off, turn back on, and it drove like normal. Any clue why?
Still love the car, and the attention it gets (for the most part). Have to upload pics, I know. Waiting on chrome power vents and then will post!

2. Probably no parking sensors on the front bumper. Rear sensors may be damaged, dirty or broken.
3. Transmission will shift at redline, well before 7,000 rpm and there is also a rev limiter so 7,000 rpm is impossible. Probably you inadvertently selected 1 or 2 gear with the paddle shift and failed to notice. It is easy to do. If it happens again try looking at the gear selector display in the instrument panel to see if it shows D or S (automatic modes) or a number (manual mode). Or try to upshift with the right hand paddle which should drop the revs each time you shift by pressing the paddle. Press and hold the upshift paddle briefly for a second or two to restore automatic mode.

1) guidance lines not available on 2009. 2010 and up, I believe. Def. on my 2011 Prem.
2).Parking alerts are enabled in reverse, then remain on even in forward gears up to 5mph, if memory serves right. There is a button on the overhead console near the sunroof control which manually turns on parking aids, which is ideal for pulling head in without first switching to reverse.

1. A shame there isn't. Is there any update or something I can buy from my dealership to get guidance lines? Not that big of a deal, but drove a friend's 2011 Ford Explorer and really liked having them.
2. I know I have both front and rear parking sensors (can tell from outside) and I wash the car every other day, so they're certainly not dirty! Let me get this straight, Escolar. When I'm backing up or moving forward at speeds up to 5 mph AFTER backing up, the sensors will be automatic, but when I'm pulling straight into a space, I will have to hit the button by the sunroof (next to my sunshade button)? Do I have to do that every time I want them or if I hit it once, will it turn them on for good until I hit it again?
3. Jagular- that's exactly what i thought I may have done, on accident. It's easy to bump the paddle shifters while driving, and I haven't had the problem since, so I'm thinking that was it.

It is. I just took my Jag for a drive and pulling into my garage, hit the button by the sunroof button with the "P" on it and they came on. Very helpful, though quite stupid that they aren't fully automatic. Wonder if they changed that in the '10-'11s or '12 redesign.

I don't quite understand, why is it stupid?
If the sensors were active all the time they would sense cars in front of you in traffic and beep, wouldn't they? Seems to me that you have to tell the car when you are parking so that it will know to use the sensors which is what the button is for.
How would the car know you are not parking when crawling along in traffic?
What am I missing here?

Well, having driven a pauper-spec Merc C180 recently in the UK, they managed to have forward sensors that didn't need turning on and off, didn't bleep in traffic, and worked automatically, so such a system is possible. Those clever Germans, must be some sort of witchcraft!
Clever indeed. Jaguar needs to find a few and take them back to Coventry!
