First XFR in Idaho
New to the forums here (Newb)
Anyhow, I picked up my XFR the end of July in Boise, ID. After driving everything I could get my hands on ('09 CTS-V, Audi A6 & S6, XF & the R), I snatched up the R that came in to the dealership!
I sold my '05 Caddy CTS-V to a good friend. And while looking to replace it, I had never "dreamed" of looking at a Jaguar. Not only am I impressed with the car, but also with the people selling them. I'm just some younger adult walking into a well known high end car dealership, and I was treated like I was the governer of the state!
Yeah, there are a few cars out there with a bit more horses, but this car has comfort, and luxurious styling...and comes with ever possible option as standard. I'm happy every time I jump in and drive off. Something that rarely happened with I drove the V.
I'm going to post some pics as soon as I wash it again. Phone pics wouldn't do justice.

I've now had the R for over a month. And "MAN" do people just stop and look while I drive by...even cops (hoping they don't see that I didn't put the front license plate mount on the car). I know that it's automatic (with paddle shifting that is instant-shift mind you), but it's quite responsive. I can keep it in auto mode, or if I feel like it, pop it into sport mode and either keep it automatic or use the paddles. The V's 6 speed was a cool option, especially to get max power out of the car, but it shifted like garbage. I constantly had problems with going into 1st and reverse. And many times it would jump out of those gears with a terrible pop and much embarrasement. In fact, I broke the shifter linkage trying to get it into reverse, while there was a car parked in front of me. Had to wait until they moved, and limped it into the dealer. Blah blah blah, many warranty appointments later, it wasn't the car for me.
Well, the new V, yes...is a monster. Still, GM thought more horsepower is better than comfort and options. Rough riding, and personally...why in the heck did they revert the body styling predominately back to the old V styling. When the '08 CTS came out, I was liking the fresh look. Then the '09 V comes out, and it looks more like the old V than an updated version. That, to me, was a little dissapointing.
Over all, when I initially looked over the base XF, the first thought that came to my mind was "4 door Austin Martin!" Not completely no, but I now had another vehicle to compare to the V, and an Audi S6 for my next car. I took it out for a spin, only 300hp, no super charger, and it was amazing. Just this base model XF had more luxury options than the new CTS-V. I was having a hard time fessing up that it was a nicer car. I had a problem with the XF having a wierd dial instead of a gear shift knob. That problem was tossed out the window when I drove it. I took that baby down the interstate at 115 miles an hour!!! It cornered superb, handled like my old V, and it was extremely relaxed inside the driver seat.
The R came in, I drove it, and the interior was more sporty looking (black wood, etched aluminum look, psuede headliner, etc. It handled just as well as the '09 V, but the comfort was hands down, WAY beyond what the V could ever offer. I wrote a check out for the down and went to my credit union to prep for the financing. Me, a guy that grew up with a great grandpa who worked on Caddies, owns 2, and even has an old school caddie tattoo....I went with the better car. To me, .1 or .2 sec slower than a V was not an issue.
I highly recommend driving an XF, or even the s/c'd XF...or heck, take an R out and have the salesman (like mine did) show you everything the car has. Amazing! Forward alert, crusie control with sensors for following traffic, paddle shift, 2 tone leather seats, and the list goes on. Never have I loved jumping into a car like I do my R.

thanks
thanks forthe review. i have driven a 7 series and 5 series and ride on those were very unimpressive (esp the 7 series - shocking to me how unimpressive that car is given the price). I was also very impressed on my test drive with the R. the paddle shifters were great and the car definitely had a very good ride given the 500 hp. not driven the '10 e-63 which is of course not out yet.
a little worried about Tata long term and very small dealer near me - not a lot of Jaguar dealers out there. Chrysler dealers were a disaster.

XF's pretty common here in Chicago - 4 or 5 park in my garage on just my level. Need an exotic here for attention. (Lambo, Ferrari, R8, etc.)

Invisible XF's
I just never see any at all. In fact I can't remember seeing one in the last 2 months, and I live and work downtown - so I've no idea where they hide. Are they all out in the burbs?
As to eye stoppers in Chicago I don't think "regular" Lambo's and Ferrari's cut it any more. The only show stoppers recently have been a pair of Bugatti Veyron's outside the Fairmont, and a Ferrari California outside of Lamborghini Gold Coast. They drew small crowds with camera phones but the others get a glance at most.

I can see how a Bugatti would be a rubber neck machine. My brothers were trying to get me to buy an older used super car. But, for me...it has to have 4 doors. I'm married, and only have 1 child (for now), so I can't justify buying something that'll only carry 2 people. I already have a motorcycle and a '70 dodge challenger.
In my area...I've only seen one other XF running around, owned by a angus cattle rancher in the Nampa area (20 mins outside of Boise) where I live. Black also.

At the mall around where I live, until recently they had a Ferrari F something, a Lamborghini Gallardo something and a Maseratti Quatroporto on display and nary a crowd of lookers. But at the car wash in the mall there was a Rolls Royce once that attracted some attention - mainly because it was so HUGE! I think the rims were 22 inches or so and these were not low profile either!!!
Live and work in Northern VA - a few miles west of DC...
