Default Fuel Filter Location - Jaguar XF 2010

Hey guys,

I was doing annual maintenance on my 2010 XF and I could not find the fuel filter to replace it. I saw some posts about a 2009 XF having the filter in the driver's side front wheel well, but I could not find it anywhere in there. I did see the fuel lines, so I know it probably wouldn't be in any of the other wheel wells. It makes sense that it would have been right there in the driver's side wheel well, but it isn't. Was the 2010 model updated?

Does anyone know where the fuel filter would be and how to access it to swap it out? It sounds like a lot of people have struggled in locating it... Thanks in advance!

The XF is built on the old S Type/Lincoln LS platform. The fuel filter is behind the wheel well liner on the drivers side of the car.

You will need to remove the liner to get at it.

I saw the DIY on the 2009 XF that said the same. I pulled back the liner on the driver's wheel well on my 2010 XF and the fuel filter was not there. Was the fuel filter location changed for later model years?

You took the entire wheel well liner off?

The filter is mounted on the back side of the wheel well and you can see fuel lines running out from behind the liner too.

I don't think it has an external, replaceable fuel filter. I believe just the filter sock at the pump does all the work. I looked on the parts catalog and a vin break shows up with a filter on cars prior to vin R47xxx and no filter after the vin which is likely what you have.

Wow that is a big change!

I don't see how it would work because you do need a replaceable filter but maybe they have a work around for that?

I do see the VIN note but Rock Auto has fuel filters for all years of the XF so I think what happened is the fuel filter part number changed?

The filter still looks the same on later models but something must have changed.

Interesting... That could explain it. I did take the entire wheel off and pulled back the lining. I saw the fuel lines and it looked like there was a spot where the fuel filter and some sort of bracket would normally be, but there was nothing. The holes for the bracket weren't even threaded, so I am wondering if the filter was done away with.

I ordered my parts using RockAuto, which did have fuel filters listed for my make/model/year. This is why I was so confused. Thanks for the help everyone.

I ordered a fuel filter from Rock Auto also. If I find the spot and cannot find one in line anywhere, for safety sake, I am going to install one. You can't have too much protection.

My manual says to replace the fuel filter every 4 years, but when I called a dealer, they asked for my VIN (which is above R47xxx) and they said the fuel filter is in the tank/fuel pump, so he didn't have a part number. Does this mean I don't need to do anything unless I have a fuel pump problem?

That would explain why I cannot locate mine.

I do not know about a MY 10 fuel filter, but a MY 12 XFR has a real filter, in addition to the intake sock, located in the fuel tank. The dealer told me it is integral to the fuel pump.

Number 9 in the drawing!

Yep, same thing is shown in my copy of the 2010/11 XFR Workshop Manual, on page 1588.

Yes, no need to do anything unless or until the fuel filter becomes clogged, and I've never heard of this happening on a 2010+ XF petrol.

Anyone kind of enough to steer me in the right direction for a fuel filter/sock replacement on MY2010 XFR/SC?
