Fuel gauge error - recalibrate fuel gauge XF 09 x250
Hi everyone. This is a problem completely different from others in this field. The fuel gauge. Everyone is having problem with fuel in but gauge showing no fuel. Well, i have the opposite. I dont have fuel and the gauge is showing that i have. Fill up the tank to about 3/4 and the gauge shows full and even after 60 miles, it still shows full. Then now gradually starts going down. Is there a way to re calibrate the fuel gauge sensor?

See attached TSB.
It could also be a faulty sender, but you'll still need to pull the pump to fix the wiring or the sender.

Even though it's showing full rather than empty, I'd still put money on the wiring to the sender being the issue given that it's known problem, especially on the earlier models.

For what it's worth, mine exhibits both symptoms. When it is working, it shows at least 1/4 to 1/2 a tank too much for the mileage. Then it quits and I get the empty reading along with the Low Fuel warning. Haven't had time to do the fix yet as I am out of town, but it is on my to do (next) list.

The davetibbs attached pdf above is the recommended fix. Some have had luck just cleaning the offending connector, but if you are already in there why not do the permanent fix?
Here's a quick video of how it looks apart and some tips on how to get to it. He is using the cleaning method. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhpWM75wIXY

Late to the party
I wish I would have seen this post sooner, it's actually easier of a fix than you would think. All you need to do is disconnect the battery terminal cables, and wait about 10-15 seconds for the system to discharge. I've heard touching the two terminal cables together (obviously not while connected to any power source and after the system has been able to completely discharge) for thirty seconds to do a hard reset on your ECU? I dont know how much that attributes to resetting the fuel gauge, or if its just turning it off and on again that does it. Either way, hope this helps!
