Gearbox fault and check engine light one-off
Hi All,
Very new owner of an XF 2010. I drove about 60 miles on highway, lovely, beautiful perfect.
Then was in a country area and drove down a long unseal road to the holiday house. The next day, driving back along the hilly, unsealed road, it was wet and a bit slippery. Car handled fine but due to conditions and hills, the gears were getting a fair workout even though I was driving at a moderate speed.
When I came to stop at the end of the street then took off again, I got a "gearbox fault" light and an orange check engine light came on the dash. I stopped the car, restarted it and the orange engine light was on, but no gearbox fault. Drove around, no problems.
Then I parked the car overnight, the next day drove home 60 miles, no issues.
I called my mechanic and he said to keep driving it and only bring it in if either error appears again. It hasn't happened again.
Anyone know whether slippery or poor road conditions can trigger these warning lights to come on? Should I be worried or do other people rarely get some sort of engine or fault light on a one-off basis and it doesn't reappear?
Thanks
Matt

Congrats on the new car
The icarsoft LRII pulls jag specific codes and has some other features too. Around $150 I think. Maybe a newer model by now
Worth having to be able to investigate issues
How is the battery? I got the gearbox fault light once several years ago - then a few other random errors. Battery was failing and never seen them since replacing
