Default Glove box area rattle driving me crazy...

I just got a brand new 2012 Jaguar XF last week. My very first Jaguar! I absolutely love the car so far, however, there is this squeek/rattle that seems to be coming from the glove box area. Sometimes its there, sometimes its not. With such a beautiful car, its a shame to have a rattle like this, and it drives me crazy! Anyone have a similar experience to this? Thanks guys!

And, i agree. Just bring it back and have them fix it.

Maybe one of the kickpanels is loose?

I hate rattles or noises of any type. I have found that in this car it is really hard to locate the area....maybe its the flat surfaces and sounds reflecting but when I have had a couple, they ended up being in completely different areas than it sounded like they were coming from....and they were always something in the car vs the car itself. Example I had a slight rattle that sounded like it was coming from the nav screen area and it was my toll road transponder up beside the rear view mirror stuck to the windshield.

Be aware that this could be the fan on the ambient temperature sensor for the climate control. This is located right beside the glovebox immediately to the left. Intermittent squeaking, clicking or rattling could be the tiny fan failing.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I have a 2010 XFR, and I started getting a few nasty squeaks and a really bad rattling with a loud shudder over bumps. I took it to the dealer, and left it there for a little over a week telling them to not give the car back to me until it's perfect. Luckily, I have a very good dealer and an excellent service advisor. I took them for a ride and they were able to hear everything that I was hearing. Then, they had the car for over a week and they completely fixed everything. So don't worry, everything can be fixed but you have to have a little bit of patience.

The car only has 150 miles!! I'm so nervous about taking it to the dealer because I'm afraid if they start opening everything up, it just might make things worse in the long run what shall I do?

If you lack confidence in your dealer find another one. Cars are just assemblies of parts. They are repaired the same way they are built in the first place, more or less. However, repairs are performed by skilled and trained mechanics who can completyl disassemble and reassemble the entire car if necessary. The car was built by laborers trained, maybe, to assemble one specific bit of your car. Never worry about the dealer mechanic, he knows more about repairing the car than the guys who built it and likely will put it back together better than new.

Default Hunting for sounds

I have at times used a stethoscope but the (surprisingly) most successful tool (tip from a fellow jensen owner) is a rubber hose with one end in your ear and the other one poking around!

@Ramair57
I have a 2012 Portfolio Sport and have notice the same sound. It is weird because like your description it does not happen all the time. I have been hesitant to take it to the dealer because the sound is not consistent. I also had to take it back a couple of weeks ago for creaks in the window seals. They replaced the seals and it has gotten better but not totally eliminated consistently. I felt the same way about the internal sounds on a new car. Loved the car but the interior noise has been disappointing.

@Jagular
I will have them check the fan if it gets worse. Thanks!
