Good Deal
I'm currently looking at purchasing a 2010 XF S/C Certified. It has about 29k miles and it's listed for $40,900. It has new Continental Extreme Contact DWS all season tires, which I'm hoping won't get me killed in a Cleveland winter. They are willing to go to $39,500, think this is a good deal? I looked at the car and besides some rock chips on the hood and a bird poop spot on the rear c-pillar it looks great.

Is it blue/black at Athens motorsports in Chicago? IF so its a good car, I almost bought it but held out for a 2011 XFSC for 46k. If you can wait a few months there will be more 2011's coming in as trades and lease returns and the price should go down a little more. The warranty on the 2011's is much better, includes maintinance.
I saw a 11 XFSC white/spice sell at Rusnak Jag with 18k miles for 42k in July and a 11 XFSC black/black with 10k miles sell at Herb Chambers Jag for 45k in August.
Expect 11 XFSC to be 42-45 k by December
Expect 10 XFSC to be 35-40k by December

Short answer: No two used cars are alike, so each sale has to be approached with a fresh set of eyes. If you like the color combo this deal represents a decent price point for you. I wouldn't sweat the mechanicals, she is a CPO and therefore a creampuff.
Longer answer: $39.5K sounds like a decent price to me for a '10 SC in excellent condition, although prices are moving south steadily as the 2013s get closer to arrival. Last week there was a thread on a 2010 XFR and the common consensus was a XFR CPO south of $50k was worth moving in on. $10k less for the SC sounds reasonable. Other comparables most likely have dicey CarFax history, are worn hard, use weirdo color combinations, and/or aren't CPOs. That said if you are patient, vigilant, and cast a wide net you can find a real steal. But for that I think you'll have to look outside the Jaguar dealership network or stumble across excess inventory headed to auction; both those cases make finding a CPO more difficult unless she's ready for her third owner. FWIW I was sitting around waiting for 2010 SC CPOs to fall down to $35K, but happened to stumble across a XFR I liked heading to auction for $39.3K (65,000 miles and CPO from the 2nd owner) and managed to convince the wife to let me move in.
I wouldn't be put off by a rock chips so long as they are small. Make sure the CarFax AND Autocheck are clean (shockingly some dealers only check one and not the other... PM me the VIN if you like and I can run an Autocheck for you). If one or the other shows an issue and you still want to continue with the sale (and as she's a CPO personally I would for a few grand knocked off), use that as a bargaining chip.
Further aside moving purely into the realm of personal opinion: I can't tell the difference between a '10 and an '11. I prefer the glovebox opener on the '10, the touchscreen interface is just fine by me, and I don't need to go to a dealer to update the navigation, so just my personal opinion it is not worth paying the upmarket for a used '11 all things being equal. '12s are another issue; you WILL be jealous of the cool-as-anything LED running lights the moment you pull up next to a '12 in your '10 or '11! But naturally you will pay quite a bit more compared to a '10.
Cheers,

For the XFR, although it says 'Buy it Now' there is no actual buy it now price, so perhaps it's just a way to generate interest. Also, who asks $39,000 for a car and only posts one photo?
Autocheck shows that as a valid VIN but the vehicle was never registered. Interesting to see what the CarFax would show.
He's also selling a BMW 7 series for cheap that Autocheck shows is registered in Tennessee and a CTS-V registered in Ohio. Something odd is definitely up. I would call Wilde Jaguar directly...

Exact same car... contacting E-bay to let them know something is amiss.
Update E-bay pulled it after letting them know possible fraud, so that was quick!
Wcoy, the admins do have to grant you PM rights. I'll shoot you one with my e-mail address. If you don't get it post back here.

Cars.com is a good resource. Cargurus.com is also nice, as it shows how long it is has been listed in inventory and if/when the price was dropped.
Hard to say that a $40K car getting 17 mpg is a 'value.' But I'm pretty convinced that used XF SCs represents one of the best deals out there.
