Default Having Key Issues with my XF - SDD 131.3

I just recently purchased a 2012 XF 5L N/A.

On one occasion while driving the vehicle, the smart key slipped out of my pocket and fell into the dark abyss somewhere in the vehicle. Even though this happened I was able to restart the car normally, therefore the key must be in the car.

Shortly thereafter, I used the second key to start the car but the car wanted me to put the key into the key slot, I did and the second key started the car fine and continued to be driven daily with the second key. I also noticed that the car wouldn't lock, I assumed the car thought that I was trying to lock the car with the misplaced key in the car. I continued to drive the car by putting the second key in the slot as the dash requested.

On the following weekend, I removed the drivers seat and couldn't find the missing key, no idea where it's hiding in the car.

I purchase a new key, started up the laptop with SDD 131.3 and did all keys lost because I wanted to remove the key that is hiding somewhere in the car, I assumed this process would stop the car asking to put the key into the key slot. I went to program the existing and new key to the vehicle. Much to my horor, it failed and now I have no working keys.

After scanning the car with SDD it seems that my RFA antenna is bad and I've ordered a new one from my local dealer.

Sorry for the long back story, but I want to shed as much light on the problem as possible.

When doing an All Keys Lost do all the keys need to be virgin keys?

Also are there any other steps I should be aware of?

I'd like to add that I've owned many Jaguars and I am familiar with WDS and IDS, but SDD is a totally different breed!

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Bonanza

I have no wisdom to add, but I am very curious to learn the solution.

From what I have done the answer is yes. You want new unprogrammed keys. Now I used the cheap knock offs from China that I got on EBay and they worked fine.
Please get and program at least 2 keys. We see so many problems when guys buy a car with only one key and don't add the second one.

When I have added keys to a car where I first erased all keys I get the new keys laid out in order on the center console BEFORE I start anything. I even stick a bit of tape on one so I can tell which is which. I say this because in SDD there are time limits when you put keys in and out. If you miss those windows you will need to start all over again. I find adding keys to be very stressful and I have bricked a car where I had keys that would turn in the ignition but not start the car?

A very bad feeling! But I just started all over from the beginning again and got it all working. FOB's and Transponder's!

If you are familiar with WDS and IDS you should not find SDD much different?
Not sure on the RFA but most of this is just programming and rarely is there a hardware failure. BUT that's not 100% either.

Thanks much and where did you get the two keys?
Jaguar or knock offs?

Glad to hear the cheap repo keys worked for you. I was reluctant to recommend them to others but I have added keys to several Jaguars with great results and for not much money too.
