Hi, I am planning on buying my first Jaguar XF (always had manual transmission up to now) and have been test driving several versions (5.0 V8 NA, 3.0D, 3.0D S - I am in the UK).
Sometimes when driving I want the option of STAYING in manual mode when using the paddles, however when test driving I noticed that if I didnt use the paddles for a short period (30secs??) then the car would automatically return to D mode.
Are there any settings (S or Dyn combinations) that will prevent this from happening?
Many thanks

S mode should keep it on the paddles until you ask it to revert to auto (holding the right paddle down). I rarely drive in S mode without Dynamic mode engaged though, so maybe it is the combination of both, but I dont think so. S + Dyn engaged is my preferred mode of driving, using the paddles.
Go for the 3.0D S - I haven't driven one, but surely they are the best all-rounder, considering fuel cost and depreciation? From the figures, I reckon it must feel almost as real world quick as an XFR.

Use S and paddle shift at least once. At that point the shifter is locked in manual mode. However, unless dynamic mode is also engaged it will still shift up at redline. Either way it will downshift for you if rpm go too low, but will stay in manual mode. Hold the right hand paddle for a few seconds to restore automatic S mode, just as for restoring automatic D mode. The time related default D mode does not apply to S mode.
