Default Help reconnecting front park assist sensor cable - FIXED - pics here

Took my 09 XF SC into the dealer for the TSB about the taillight LEDs and also asked them to check the park assist that has never worked since I bought the car. We noticed a paper Jaguar branded tag down on the inside of the lower drivers side intake grill. I asked if they could pull it out. Turns out that this label was connected to the cable that connects the front parking sensors, as this was just flopping around back there!

As you may guess, I get the speech that someone must've taken the bumper off and caused this issue, so its not covered under warranty. They estimate 2 to 3 hours labor because they insist the bumper needs to come off to reconnect this cable. At $120 per hour, I'll pass.

Can anybody supply information on how to reconnect this cable? I can imagine that the undercover needs to come off, but is there really not enough room inside the bumper to reach in and reconnect this cable?

Blaydes99,

This is for an X-type, but the directions are relatively the same for the xf. The dealer is probably correct when he said that someone probably had the bumper off at one time, because that particular sensor plug is the most fragile and difficult one to get plugged back in. So I'm thinking that either someone was lazy and didn't want to work to plug it in, or they simply forgot.

Have you tried to get at it by removing the headlight assembly? Seems to me when I had mine out last year you could access those plugs from there.

Great ideas, thank you. I'll try the driver's side headlight first then go from there.

Well, Wife's Tech, you saved me a good $200-300. (Not that I would've actually paid the dealer, but hey)

The park assist cabling is easily accessible once you take out the headlight. Here's some pics of what I did:

***Notice how much space is opened up without that headlamp***

Pic 1: This is the cable that was just flapping around in there with label attached lower down, visible at bottom of pic.

Pic 2: After some searching, I found the plug for the park assist, hidden under this support. It's white plastic retaining screws/clip is visible here in the shot. Cables to it are kind of visible underneath.

Pic 3: I detached the lower "hidden" cable from it's position and reconnected the cables. I then snapped the now joined cables back into it's original position, secured again with the white clip.

Pic 4: The 3rd 'hidden' headlamp screw. The owner's manual actually covers how to remove the headlights, but remember that there are three screws that need to be removed. Two accessible from the hood area, and one from the wheel well. I suggest turning your tires away from the hole to get good access.

Other notes:
Main electrical cable is easy to release.
Those headlights with power washers will have a water tube that spills everywhere. Find something to plug it or hold it up high to prevent water from spilling out.

Glad to have helped... Now if we could figure a way to get the grille out without a half a day’s labor it would ice the cake... Thanks for posting the instructions on headlight removal... I forgot to do that. That bolt in the wheel-well is a PITA if it falls off the socket... recommend doing that one first when re-installing the assembly... after dropping it once it becomes apparent... lol

I'm glad that everything worked out for you. Saved some bucks as well. It's amazing some of the crap these dealers will feed you. All because of laziness and greed.
