Default Ignition Switch 2009 XF Supercharged

Hello,
I took my 2009 XF Supercharged to a local mechanic who advertises repairing European cars, including Jaguar.
My ignition switch plastic cover broke (START STOP) when I pushed it down to the bottom of the hollow ignition switch cavity--just broke about one month ago. It still works fine when I use my thumb and finger to press the rim of the ignition switch-the car started every time.
While in repair shop for PVC and thermostat sensor, one of the techs "fished out" the plastic piece and the shop tells me the car won't start? I went by and it would not start.
Any chance the ignition switch was damaged when the tech/mechanic "fished out" the plastic piece? Just curious? It worked fine until then.
(However, the shop may not have locked the car with the key FOB and the battery drained?)
Do I need to replace the ignition switch now? What should this ignition switch cost?
Thanks for your replies. I appreciate your help!

Michael,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X250 forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

Graham
