Default iPhone 5 connectivity

I just preordered iPhone 5, and just realized that now that it has the lightning (8-prong) connector rather than the old 30-pin, it won't plug into my Jag.

I don't know if this works, but I've been wondering if anyone has tried using their USB-to-30-pin cable to plug their iphone in for music purposes only? Does it charge the phone? I ask this because every time I plug it in, my phone's dead by the time I get to my destination and if a change in cord would make it charge along the way, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

If not, does anyone know if Jaguar makes a lightning connector cable, and if so, where can I order it from? If worse comes to worse, I can buy a (bulky) Apple adapter for $29...but I'd rather not.

I will be 100% amazed if you can get the new apple i-phone 5 to pair with the Jaguar bluetooth phone system. Have they also changed the power intake as well as the connectors. Please let me know how you get on.

I know it is not directly responsive, but my 4 pairs with my X350 fine and the adaptor is not bad looking (I am greeting one for my lotus).

Yeah, my 4S pairs well with my X250.

I'm just going to wait till my iPhone arrives (preordered last night...Apple is saying October 10-16) and test the USB cable to see if that will work for music. I can't see why bluetooth wouldn't work for calls, if I program my phone with it. If all else fails, I'll buy the lightning to 30 pin connector from apple and plug it in through the Jaguar iPod cord.

Read again. 'iPod out' refers to a different functionality. Besides, wait for the phone to be shipped and see what transpires. It's unlikely that the ability to send sound through a cable will be ignored.

iPod out refers to video output but even tech sites question car functionality with the adapter. I'd bet it will depend highly on the car.

I've experienced this. It's a weird because it will connect with the car for months, then suddenly the car won't recognize it. I can't explain it but when this happens, I connect my Iphone 4S to another docking device/station, like my home theater Iphone dock. I then play a song or two, go back to the car and it syncs up!!! Strange but it works. So give it a try and hopefully it works out for you.

Even though I just ordered myself the iPhone 5, my solution is simple.

When my wife and son got the iPhone 4s, they gave me their iPods since they no long use them. I took one of the iPods and loaded up my music. Now it never leaves the arm rest in the car.

If you don't have an iPod lying around the house, you can buy a used one off eBay pretty cheaply.

Do you leave the ipod plugged in all the time? I have the wire coming through the side and i plug and unplug every time i use it. I remember reading in the manual it's important not to leave it plugged in.

I don't know if it's because it might drain the battery or not. But, what's your experience?

[QUOTE=Executive;584519]Do you leave the ipod plugged in all the time?

I leave my ipod plugged in all the time. I don't drive my car for a week or more at a time and I've never had any issues.

Same for me. I've never noticed any problems.

My iphone 5 works Great on my MY10 with the Bluetooth for Phone connectivity, Has anybody tried the apple lightning adapters with the Jaguar Ipod cable. I have tried the cheaper chinese adapters but they don't support Audio, the apple one supports audio but at £25 - £30 I don't want to buy one if its not going to work.

My lightning adaptor works perfectly with an old 30-pin to USB cable in my MY12 XF. What's more, the standard lightning to USB cable also works perfectly.

Hi, Just a quick Update. Bought the Apple Lightning adapter cable and it works great with the Jaguar ipod cable.
I tried all of my lightning usb cables with the usb connector but none of them support audio but as the adapter works I don't need them any way.
Still doesn't charge though which is a bit of a pain but never mind can't have it all..

I have the Apple lightning adapter and the Scosche charging adapter. Both are needed to get complete music control and charging. Since they're all hidden in console it's not much of an issue. My XF is a MY10 Portfolio.

I also leave my old iPhone 3G plugged in just for music with the iPod connection cable & it also charges. This also allows charging of my iphone 5 through the standard apple USB cable ( or a cigarette lighter charger).

What MY is your Jag? I have a 2010 XF, and it doesn't work for me..

I bought a new Lightening to 30-pin adapter from the Apple store, but not only is my iPhone 5 not picked up as a "docked iPod", it doesn't even charge when connected to the iPod cable. I know there are no issues with the iPod cable as my 160GB iPod Classic works just fine with the cable..

Any ideas on what I need to do??
