Jaguar XF 2010 3L Diesel Fuel Sender unit
Hello my Jaguar XF 2010 3L Diesel has been having some issues with the trip range staying at the same mileage/ low fuel level or just showing nothing. Then I'll hit a bump and it will go back to normal for an intermittent period of time, the last time it showed these symptoms was two years ago for a few days. Now it has come back with a vengeance and is not work most of the time.
Looking for a Jaguar specialist mechanic in the Kineton/Banbury area that comes recommended, my local garage wants me to buy the unit and they will fit it, they really don't seem to like working on Jaguars as they returned the car to me last time with a simple job undone( the boot lid harness).

This is a common ffault. There is a black 2 pin wire connector for the sender inside the fuel tank that degrades and needs to be replaced.Connector is obvious if you remove the metal lock ring and raise pump/sender unit 6 inches. Best done with tank less than half full. Don't attempt when tank is full. Fault starts as intermittent but gradually gets worse. Don't be tempted to ignore it. The fuel pump relies on the diesel for lubrication so must never run dry. Car ECU knows this so will only allow preset range after it is triggered to prevent it. This is done by simulating running out of fuel. Car will briefly lose power every 5 seconds followed by engine shutdown about 3 minutes later. You can guess how I know this
