Thanks to the help of this forum and its members, for which we're very grateful, TrueDelta has an updated result for the XF.
Based on owner experiences through December 31, 2008, the Jaguar XF requires 137 repair trips per 100 cars per year. This result is well below that reported six months ago, but is very close to that reported three months ago. So after the initial problems with early cars this appears to be the level at which the repair rate will level off. Still worse than the average, but not nearly as high as initially.
Problems tend to be minor electrical.
TrueDelta now has a separate page of reliability results for each model where the scores for competitors are also displayed for easy comparisons. The one for the Jaguar XF is here:

UK powertrains have been added to the database, so owners with the diesel or new 5.0 V8 can now participate in the gas mileage survey as well as the main reliability survey.
Real-world gas mileage survey
In about a month we'll start previewing the next set of reliability results to participants. More always helpful.

We got our Lunar Grey Jaguar XF delivered this past week and the styling is absolutely awesome inside and out. We used to own an Acura RL which I believe had some better options (more advanced Dashboard and Navigation system, rear and side window shades) but I would definitely say the XF is a notch above in class. We haven't had a single problem with the RL for 3 years and now a bit worried about what the future holds for us with this XF. Hopefully, it won't be too bad.

HowardC11:
The odds are higher of getting a faulty car with the XF, but still aren't high.
We'll have updated results in May. The more owners that participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

So far our XF is performing well. However, I mostly use my iPOD in the car for music and occasionally have issues getting back to the play list from the Artists folder. After I change the Source and get back to the iPOD, it corrects itself. Not a big deal, but still an issue.

Updated results this week. Very good sample size considered the sales volume for this car. A big thanks to everyone who has been helping.
That said, having more owners participate would improve the precision of future results.

No one else has a reliability stat for the XF yet. Even so, we've just updated ours to include owner experiences through the end of March. A big thank you to this forum and its members for making this result possible.
While the repair frequency hasn't improved this time around, it also hasn't gotten much worse. The reported repair rate: 147 repairs per 100 cars per year.
With prompt quarterly updates, we'll continue to track the XF closely. We'd also like to have a quick result for the 2010, to see if reliability improves in the second model year. The more participants we have, the better the information we can provide.

We'll start previewing the August results to participants in about a month.
Do many people here have the new 2010s? We'd especially like to have a quick result for the second model year, to see how much reliability has improved over the 2009s. The second year is often more reliable than the first.

Updated public results next month. We've had great participation by XF owners, but more would be even better.
We especially need more 2010s, to see how much reliability improves in the second model year.

I'm going to be in the market for a new car and even though I biased towards AWD the Jaguar XF is a consideration. I learned that checking out the owner forums gives great insight into the true performance/reliability. This repair survey is just want I was looking for, albeit a relatively small sample size compared to something like JD Powers or Consumer Reports.
I've owned Acuras, Hondas, Volvos (currently drive S60R). I've always had by far the best experience with Japanese makes. I've always wanted a big luxury car with some sportiness and good looks/uniqueness so here I am. Funny thing is, British cars are notorious for poorly designed electrical systems. And low an behold, a few posts back, I see someone already has had electrical problems.
This car would push my budget to the edge (having to buy used around $50K for the supercharged model). Aside from the fact the 20" rims are ugly and make the handling too rough, I really like this car. Too bad the reliability info is turning out to be about what I expected.
I loved driving my Volvo. People look at it like it is a Ferrari (that's a Volvo?) and it was fun passing the Porsche Carerras at the track last year. But it has had it's qwirks with a trip to the dealer at least every 3 or 4 months. With my Acura, the only trip was to get the oil changed. I don't want to go back to that and it sounds like both the XF and Caddy CTS will both put me in that situation again working out the qwirks. Time is too previous. I wish the new TL wasn't so fugly in the back.
XF is a beautiful car with awsome features and great looks. Wish I could afford a new one as I've learned from a lot of reading that first-year model cars are always a big gamble. Wait until at least the second year when at least the initial wave of kinks are all worked out.

I wouldn't use those Edmunds reviews for reliability information--it's not a structured survey process. They are good for other sorts of information.
It's quite possible that the 2010s will be about average in reliability. But no data yet, since few of them are signed up.
If anyone here has a 2010, I hope they can sign up and participate. Additional 2009s would also be helpful.

Updated results just posted. The repair rate has improved to 105 repair trips per 100 cars per year. Still worse than average, but better.
We'd like to have results for the 2010 as soon as possible, but few of these signed up so far.

Updated results again next month.
We're going to start providing new stats for the odds of requiring no repairs and the odds of getting a lemon. These require larger sample sizes, so additional participants would be helpful. Especially need more 2010s.

Updated results posted. The repair rate of 107 repair trips per 100 cars per year is about the same as last time. Still worse than average, but much better than earlier.

We have updated results for the Jaguar XF to include owner experiences through December 31, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:
2010: 76, about average but very close to "worse than average"
2009: 86, better than earlier, and trending in the right direciton, but still worse than average
We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.
With the 2009 XF, the percentage with no repairs is about 49, while the percentage of lemons is about 4.
Nada-odds and Lemon-odds car reliability stats
A big thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May and August. With more participants, we could provide more precise information. Especially need more 2010s.

Recently enhanced the related repair history survey so that it can (optionally) be used as a personal car maintenance record.
As always, more participants would be helpful. Especially need more 2010s and 2011s.
Updated Car Reliability Survey results in May.
