Tried it.

They never got back to me, despite my (at the time, what I felt was) valuable experience in tearing the block down and getting photos of damage caused by slack timing chains. Also, note the years that are covered in the class action are only 2012-2014, despite the fact that earlier cars such as my 2010 obviously have the issue.

Finally, unless you're a lead claimant on one of these actions you're likely to end up with a check for the square root of **** all.

Just my 2c

Saab put a 8 yr unlimited mileage warrnty on all engines failures due to sludge after a class action. Also extended it beyond all the years in the suit. Better than $$ in hand

I'll give it a shot too on Monday ( I drive through the towns where the office is every week

I have contacted them a few times. Sounds like they are in mediation with JLR which might take some time.

If jaguar had a problem with the engine they would be in big trouble if they didn’t fix it. They use the same 5.0 AJV8 in their new range rovers and f pace svr. Also in the f type.

Problem is most people who buy those new cars buy it on lease and don’t face those issues.

JLR knows of this problem and have a TSB to fix this on the LR side. It affects 5.0 engines produced from 2010 to 2012 mainly. They changed the timing chain parts for 2013+ JLR cars, so you don't see this ticking time bomb issue on the newer cars.

Which makes the fact that the class action only covers 2012-2014 doubly odd.

Maybe there is some US consumer law which has a "statute of limitations" such that seven years ago - 2012 - is as far back as you can go?
Although I would have thought this action was being taken under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and I don't think that has a statute of limitations.

To be honest, I suspect the years the class action covers reflects the law firm's ignorance about the issue at hand rather than any other reason.

Yeah been there, just need to fill in the blanks.

What they will do is discovery and figure all that out ( including Land Rover)

I tried to take advantage of that TSB a few weeks ago, and they told me that because my car was out of warranty (2011) I wouldnt quality. is this true?

Unfortunately yes, TSBs will only be done when a vehicle is under factory warranty. They are not like recalls, so a manufacturer can deny the work. You can use a TSB to call Jaguar NA and raise your concern and they might cover some of the cost, but no guarantee.

As far as I am aware, only LR's had a TSB to address the timing chain issues. Jaguar pretends to be unaware of the issue even though it is the exact motor, except for the oil pan and a few other bits. Is this the TSB you referred to the dealer: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...56266-1292.pdf

Seems JLR pretends a lot of times they have no idea. I bought mine used off a dealer across the state and asked about the coupler and the service manager pretended he never heard about it. My dealer locally is the one that told me about the coupler on my XFR and the service manager told me he could hear it going before I could even hear it .Fixed before the warranty was out

If there’s a TSB then should we all do it ? Is it hard for mechanics and expensive for consumers?

If a dealership refuses to do a TSB then must be a risky job or too much work?

To clarify, I don't think dealers are "refusing to do a TSB", so much as refusing to do it for free out of warranty.

A Technical Service Bulletin is just technical advice or repair instructions for the dealer technicians to help short cut diagnosis of common issues. Once the car is out of warranty then the costs of any fix would be down to the owner.

Special Service Messages are similar but are more aimed at passing on information to the technicians.

Service Actions cover work that needs to be done to cars next time they come to the dealership for servicing and usually expire after a few years.

Recalls are urgent fixes for potentially dangerous issues and the current owner should have been contacted to arrange a time for the car to be repaired.

Recalls are therefore the only thing that might still be done on an early 5 litre at no cost to the owner.

Does anybody know if a similar notice exists for the 3.0 engine?

Are there specified VIN numbers with the affected vehicles? or is it all vehicles up to 2014 year?

I have a 2014 XFR and it is a 2014, I do have certified pre owned warranty till August 2021 but don't want to run it till the engine **** itself.

Any input would be appreciated

Cheers
Sam

Based on my knowledge the timing chain issue affects 2012 5.0L engines and below. If you have this issue with 2013+ engines please advise what the issue is, state your engine and if it is the timing chain guides?
