Low coolant warning
#4
I just received a call from jaguar roadside and the water pump needed to be replaced 33,000 miles apparently its a known issue on the 5.0 xf/sc. jaguar had to go back to the drawing board and came up with a new design and upgraded the water pump. So those of you who have the 5.0 xf/sc if you hear a rattling sound coming from the front of the engine and your losing coolant get it checked out. roadside is towing my vehicle back to upper Marlboro Maryland 7 hours no charge. what a great warranty. Jaguar roadside really works just keep your receipts. They truly pay for meals, hotels and rentals for trip interruptions.

The water pump issue is with all 5.0 models from at least 09 and 10 model years.
I just got my car back today, replaced pump and two coolant hoses, under the CPO warrenty. My car has 64K on it.
I noticed a strong burning anti-freeze smell for a few days and then noticed the coolant reservoir was almost dry. I never saw any visual leaking.
My car never overheated or a low coolant warning, as I caught it very early by paying attention to the warning signs.
They also flat bedded my car 90 miles to be certain the pump did not fail completely and cause a very dangerous over-heating condition.
BTW - the service advisor said Jag is now on the third revision of pump as the second is now failing as well. I can't confirm that, just what he said.

2009 XF/SC.
Check engine light comes on. Took it to the dealership on Tue 7/22/2014, no warranty. I had my thermostat replaced, coolant topped off, fuel injectors worked on because my car was misfiring. Picked up my ride 7/23/2014, next day 7/24/2014 the COOLANT LEVEL LOW warning light comes on. I called, they told me to put more coolant in and keep an eye on it for a couple of days. A couple of days later light is still on. I've had the car since Nov 2013, light has never been on. After thermostat is replace light comes on and has been on for 4 days now. Makes me wonder.
All this is happening after I paid $500 for my 30k servicing. Oh and I had to have my rear brakes replaced during my 30k mile servicing. DAMN!!

Check the little circular float inside your tank. With the car cold, take the cap off the coolant reservoir and use a long screwdriver or dowel to push on the float. If it's already on the bottom of the tank or does rise back up when you push it down, the float is the problem. On my Supercharged 2009, the float stopped "floating" and this was tripping the sensor. You can search my thread for my symptoms and solution. It's an easy fix once you have a replacement float, as the little cap that keeps the float on can easily be taken off and put back on with long needle-nose pliers.
