Unhappy Man... all these codes! P2105 P0101 P0236 P061A P2105 P061A P0158 P2105

My 2010 Jaguar XF Supercharged started having major issues just as the 3 year old battery was giving out. It started hesitating, stalling out - giving messages like Stability Control not available, Cruise Not Available, Limited / Restricted Performance - and going into limp mode -- especially at low speeds.

I had the battery replaced 3 weeks ago, and all the issues have persisted. Tonight after running the error report with all these codes, I replaced both MAF sensors, found a vaccuum tube unattached and reattached it near the middle top of the engine, and replaced the overflow tube coming out of the overflow tank to the middle top of the engine since I saw that it was cracked and leaking.

My next guess is the Throttle body/sensor unit needs replacing and/or the sensors behind the gas and/or brake pedals?

Any ideas out there?

Thanks!
Bruce

Was it in an accident or something? Seems strange you'd have all of these codes and also find hoses disconnected and such.
If I'm reading the output correctly, it seems to be saying you went 190 miles on it before hitting the engine shutdown. How did it drive? Backfires? Loss of power?

no accident - just one hose. Last night I replaced both MAF sensors, rehooked up the hose, and cleared the codes.

Today, after 20 miles or so, the engine light came on with new codes - any ideas anyone?

I would say you still have a large intake plenum leak or a bad MAF. I would have look at the LTFTs and the MAF readings with my scanner.

Maybe your MAFs were fine but now are not. If they are OK now then yes you may well have an air leak. Not likely to be throttle so don't mess with it.

Follow the usual advice and check fuel trims to see if it is an air leak and only if it is then go looking for it as usual.

Before, you probably got false codes due to the failing battery.

Default antifreeze had leaked onto y-tubing rotting a big hole/crack in it

Hi All,

Huge air leak definitely the issue now and on top of the other issues - as both replies had alluded to.

I had a leaking overflow tube leaking right at the point of entry to the top center of engine.

This was in addition to the recent bad battery, and bad MAF sensors. I replaced the MAF sensors and then got the 'too lean' errors.

Last night I decided to triple-check the air filter box to throttle body tubing/boxes for any leaks and found that the intake tubing had rotted away due to the antifreeze dripping on to it for months and months. I had to fill up my antifreeze once a month, but none was dripping onto the ground, so I never really thought to check too much.

But when I pressed down on the top of the black intake tubing, the tubing had a crack and actually crumbled away making even a larger hole.

I see online I can order one for about 130 bucks, but I need one today, so heading to the dealer to see if they have one in stock. Only 3 clamps, so an easy fix - but very irritating one.

To me, the overflow hose connection isn't the best design. And since it does leak and could leak, a metal baffle of some sort covering the plastic intake tubing so that nothing drips on to it would have been a great addition in design by Jaguar.

So you have been running with "Glycol Injection"! I wonder how your performance will change without the coolant?

Default Intake tube replaced, K&N filters put in -- new report from OBDII

Wanted to update the post with a new report after a new 250 dollar intake y-tube that connects the 2 air cleaner boxes. Also replaced the stock air filters with K&N filters - which by the way is a pain in the **** because of the multiple star shaped screws.

The only nice thing about getting a new y-tube is all new clamps, new thick plastic and non-aged flex tubing that should last another 5 years easily -- especially without the anti-freeze dripping on it.

The question I had is that I hadn't bothered with warm idle RPM questioning, but saw somewhere it should be 750? Mine is more around 610.

Here's the updated report --

You did not say... Have you cleared all codes, then done a "OBD drive cycle"?

I'd say you have an Oxygen sensor problem, your short term fuel trim (STFT) reading are way off from bank to bank, STFT are adjusted by the ECM from O2 sensor output.

SAE 0x06 Short term fuel % trim - Bank 1 -10.16%
SAE 0x08 Short term fuel % trim - Bank 2 -5.47 %

According to your second data sheet, both banks are running rich (Shown as a negative as the computer is being told to take this much fuel away in trying to achieve an ideal 14.7:1 air fuel ratio) , and bank 1 is twice as rich as bank 2.
Since you already replaced the MAF sensors, O2's might be your next issue, as a bad MAF and/or O2 sensor can cause this issue.
Of note, a bad MAF and/or vacuum leak can fool the ECM into a rich condition and take out an O2 sensor. And too much oil on a K&N air filter can take out a MAF sensor, never add oil to a new K&N filter as its ready to go out the box.
Good luck!

Except that the LTFTs are both high positive. That is much more significant than STFT, which naturally oscillate high and low. These numbers can only be interpreted correctly when you know see trend charts. Charting the trims and lambda sensor voltages may help define a bad lambda sensor OR that there is still an intake plenum leak, especially if the LTFT trims go down under increased throttle.

So, I would have another good look for intake air leaks. Actually, what I would do is use my smoke tester to look for intake air leaks, but the numbers represent a BIG leak, so yu should be able to find it visually or by listening.

What "the man" says about p0741 and P0744

The basic criteria, is that the DTCs will set when the Long Term Fuel Trim (LTFT)
values for the indicated cylinder bank have exceeded +/-20%.

The LTFT will modify the fuel mixture “mapping” that is represented by the ECM calibration. (Also
referred to as the ECM “tune”)
The “+/- values” indicated by the LTFT displayed by IDS datalogger (or a suitable generic OBDII
diagnostic tool), are what the ECM has calculated as a long-term adjustment required maintain
performance and emissions levels that are consistent.
This LTFT adjustment within the ECM is the final correction applied. In many cases when looking at
other fueling related signals such as the Universal Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen sensor (UHEGO)
feedback, and Short Term Fuel Trim (STFT), they will not indicate a rich or lean condition.
This can be better explained using a simple exampl
e of when a vehicle develops a vacuum leak, and
how this affects UHEGO, STFT, and LTFT, and in what order.
UHEGO, STFT, and LTFT basic relationships:
When all mechanical and electrical aspects of the vehicle are functioning as designed:
The UHEGO sensor feedback should regularly cycle, slightly rich, and then slightly lean in response
to the ECM making similar adjustments to the S
TFT. (This improves catalyst efficiency.)
The STFT and LTFT will both be very close to 0%, but it would not be abnormal to see readings +/-
5% due to oxygenation levels of the fuel, and build tolerances for every mechanical and electrical
component within the engine, and management system.

LoL, the ECM'so fuel trim response is only as good as the information it receives, so since you've already fixed the MAF sensors, and think the same of your vacuum leaks, the O2 sensors are the next logical step since they are the only parts of this problem that will effect both short (high neg) and long term (high pos) fuel trims as decribed.

I agree "IF" the MAF and the vacuum leaks are actually fixed. I disagree about the sensors being the "only parts... affecting LTFT and STFT". STFT for a time adjusts LTFT.

Again, you need the trends to say definitively what is even happening. A snapshot will not do it.

I agree fuel trim trends will give you more info, but given the snapshot info, the problems the car had and fixes already done, the O2 sensors would be my next look.

You really need to re-post in the correct forum or, better, grab the data from JTIS free and it lists all known causes of each code.
