All,
This is interesting.
Jaguar announces two new Powertrains at Beijing Auto Show
It looks like the 127 PS specific output of the new engine (highest ever) points to a much more efficient and not too different HP output (375 HP if you backcalculate) compared to MY2012s. Plus coupled with AWD that is expected in these 3L engine version would lead me to conclude that the MY-2012 will sell meaningfully cheaper assuming of course that these new versions are not priced super expensively. Am I missing something here? Pl. pitch in with your thoughts.

Car is too heavy for a 4 cylinder. As for AWD, the cost should be around $ 2.5 K more, give or take, to keep it in line with all the other AWD cars already on the road. Jaguar is the last one to the party in this catagory. AWD system will add more weight and reduce fuel efficiency so they will need to lighten the car in other areas. Aluminium would save weight but greatly increase the cost. Still, the 2012 RWD V8 may well be the last of it's kind in it's current configuration.

I toured the Castle Bromwich factory a couple of weeks ago. There is no sign that the XF is to be made from aluminum anytime soon. What I did see was a modular assembly line which can produce any number of XF variations easily. I do wonder how long the Ford engine contract is to last. Jaguar just announced the opening of their own engine plant. There would be very little point in making the new V6 a 90 degree short block from the V8 if they intend to abandon that engine. They are talking of ensuring that the new F Type can accept a V8. I think the V8 will always be an option for North America. No chance they will introduce the four cylinder for North America.

I have an idea of how this post got lost....Jaguar keeps announcing engine choices piecemeal. I've read no less than 3 different engine announcements for the XF and F-Type in the last 4 days. Last was that the 8 cylinder will be available for both XF and F Type for MY 13. Also, lastest Jag anouncement was that the 2.2 Diesel is coming to North America (I'm thinking Canada but it may be heading to the US too- I think it had like 50 mpg combined).
