Default mysterious annoying rattle from rear right side

Going over even small potholes, man hole covers, imperfecions - there is this tapping/rattle noise coming from the right back side. Almost feels like the upper part of the suspension. Dealer unable to locate, and it's getting worse every day.
Any ideas?

2011 XF S/C. 29,000 mi.

I suspect it is the Strut mounting or the Strut/Shock itself going bad....Dealer should be able to find it... something that loud as you say...Might also be control arm bushing.

Have you had a technician ride with you to at least identify that there is an unusual noise? I've certainly found that with those kinds of complaints, it is absolutely necessary to ride with someone so they understand what you think the issue is. If it is as pronounced as you say, it seems odd that they can't locate anything - usually the issue is they identity the wrong thing...

I had the tech riding with me 3 days ago. Of course, the noise was not heard then. However, now it's getting worse and worse. I drove around all day yesterday around the dealership, looking for the 'right' road to guaranty the tech hears it. found this shopping mall parking lot next to the Jag dealer, where the car makes the rattle all the time. So I'll try again with the tech today. Both rear shocks were replace about a month ago, after the right side was found to be leaking ( that repair experience is another short story). I wonder if there is a connection.

well, the tech finally heard it. He thought it's coming from the back shelf area - sounded to him like a springy tap tap. Now I'm told they will remove the seat, the car has to be brought to the body shop to have a 'bracket welded' - there is a SB about this. Does any one knows about this?
I don't like it one bit.

I had a similar problem and this is what they fixed. With this and the sunroof clips fixed, it's quiet as a church. Drove me crazy before that.

I just bought my 2010 XFR and didnt notice this noise till I was well on my way home. I thought I left the "boot" unlatched or the folding seats unlatched. Your description sounds oddly similar to mine. Tapping sound on all types of bumps at all speeds. Mine does not come and go though, its there all the time and driving me nuts! Can you please let me know what you had done and if it was fixed? I would love to be able to return to the dealer with some information to help guide them. Thanks!

I attached it to my post above (#8). I can't see attachments if I'm looking on my phone so try looking again with a computer and you'll see an attachment with my repair invoice. Hope it helps.

Not meaning to hijack OP's thread but I notice you had the steering column binding noise. I had service for this issue, and the service manager said they "greased" the column mechanism. It sounds like there could be a defect not just lack of grease? Has your noise returned?

I have a Camry that had an obvious clunk noise that you could also feel in the steering wheel when turning it. There was a TSB released for that model year where Toyota had failed to put enough grease in the column. I was very doubtful, but decided to buy the grease kit with injection syringe since it was relatively cheap. Here we are 3 years later, and it's still clunk-free.
