Default Need advise, semi metallic or ceramic

It’s time for new brakes for my 2013 XFR, I am looking at the different offerings available. I see brake kits that include cross drilled and slotted rotors with a semi metallic brake pads and others that have the ceramic pads. I’m looking for suggestions as to what would be the best solution. I’m looking through Amazon and the prices are quite good. Seems too good as a matter of fact. I don’t know if the quality is there.

the picture is of one of the kits available for $319. I would appreciate any thoughts.

I use the power stop ceramic pads on my XF's. No dust means no cleaning and long rotor life. Brake dust is really rotor dust. I would never go any other route that ceramic pads, because they stop just as well and have so many benefits.

What did you think about the quality of the product and did you get the rotors as part of the package deal?

it seems very reasonably priced for pads and rotors for all four corners, not complaining but I’m hoping they are of good quality.

agre with @lotusespritse here, ceramic,

I like the pwerstop stuff. I am using Akebono ceramic and poerstop drilled and slotted on my rear brakes on the XF, waiting till i need the fronts but will ikely do the same.

Been very happy with Akebono pads for years on my Saabs, they were OE manufacturer for Saab

The EBR1042XPR rear rotors are $55 each at rock auto. Front are $134

Pads are Akebono 1095 Euro Ultra premium pads for the rear ( amazon 55.83)

I have used the evolution stuff on my BBK for my Saab and my honda pilot seem fine

The OP has a 2013 XFR and neither Power Stop or Akebono make ceramic pads for the 380 mm front or 376 mm rear brakes.
The 355 mm front and 326 mm rear yes but not the bigger brakes on the XFR.
If you go to that Amazon page for the Power Stop K3038 brake kit it rather unhelpfully does not say anywhere what size the rotors are, but if you put 2013 Jaguar XFR into the box at the top left it tells you "this does not fit your car", see here:
Amazon Amazon

It is odds on that the Amazon brake kits posted by the OP are for the 355 mm front and 326 mm rear brakes.
Yes, Power Stop ceramics (Z16, Z17, Z23 etc) are great and I fitted a set of Z16s all round on my old XFS (355 front and 326 rear) and they are still the smoothest and quietest and lowest dust pads I have ever used.
Power Stop don't make them for my 2014 F-Type either (the front brakes are identical to those on the XFR) but just over two years ago now I fitted Porterfield R4S pads and they have been great. Very low dust, good stopping power, smooth and quiet but not completely silent, just a tiny bit of "graunch" when coming to a stop with cold brakes but still a helluva lot better than the incredibly dusty and noisy OEM pads.
EBC make ceramic pads for the XFR and some people love them and others not so much but I have never used them.
Porterfield make them for the XFR both front and rear, see here: https://www.porterfield-brakes.com/P...field%20Brakes

I also put after-market slotted and drilled rotors on my XFR then moved them over to the F-Type, and they have been great as well - zero noise, very even wear, have hardly worn at all over five years now (but I am a very conservative braker!) and of course the added bonus of looking great!
They are Hart brand I bought via Fleabay and they were quite cheap at the time.

Thank you for the helpful information, I will verify fitment and order the drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads. I’m looking forward to getting a feel of how they work and the quality. Once I get everything, I’ll post the brand I was able to get and my thoughts about the product.

These are the rotors and pads I bought five yeas ago for my 2010 XFR: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fits-2010-2...485f987da9e290

Well not quite, the package I bought was all four wheels! And don't worry that this particular ad says 2010-2012 XFR, the brakes are identical across all XFRs from 2010 to 2015.
Although the pads were advertised as "ceramic" they were not, they turned out to be the exact same Centric PosiQuiet semi-metallic pads I already had on anyway, which are better than the OEM pads for dust but nowhere near as low dust as true ceramics or Porterfields (which are carbon/kevlar). So be very careful about buying a package with pads advertised as ceramic coz a lot of the time they are not.
And here is the eBay Motors page for "Jaguar XFR brake rotors", literally 100s to choose from: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...rs&_sacat=6000

Same as Oz. I got the posi quiet that turned out to be semi metallic. Now been on EBC red stuff for a couple of years and they have been great. Silent and effective

I have drilled / slotted rotors. First set didn't seem to wear evenly and I got brake pedal judder. Replaced for free and been great since then.

Same here - I got the drilled and slotted rotors from PowerStop and the EBC Red ceramic pads for all 4 wheels.
I love the way they feel, stop, and essentially zero dust. I would definitely do the same again.

Default Couldn’t be happier

I installed the Power Stop rotors and TRW ceramic pads on all four corners and love them, I washed the car days ago and still virtually no dust, stops as well as semi metallic in my opinion.
