Hi - sorry to hear that. Did it start eventually or is it still stuck? Any error codes or check engine light - you need a code reader to pull the codes

First two thoughts are battery issue (common cause of random issues - have it tested, cheap to replace). Or maybe fuel pump - a bit more of a hassle

Hang in there dude....let the forum know what codes come up and go from there. Any chance you purchased an extended warranty when you bought the car?

There are a few posts from members who have experienced something similar. Drill down through the posts and you will find a post that is related to your issue. Bad fuel pump seems to be the common variable that fits the issue you are having

Well i had my mechanic look at it and run codes and apparently there is a recall on the ecm for a software update related to the fuel pump but when i called the dealership he said it had nothing to do with the fuel pump ..but my problem is my car wont start so i have no way to get it to the dealership ..

Yea i guess thats my only option since i dont know why the guy at the dealership is telling me it has nothing to do with the fuel pump when the recall says ecm software update for fuel pump failure..

Like i said...research the forum...find common variables that cause the issue you are having, then go from there. Good luck

Maybe the guy at the dealership is just being pedantic, in that it might be a software problem only and no mechanical problem with the fuel pump?

Understand that the service advisors are not going to diagnose your problem or give you any sort of advice.

They only need to know if you are under warranty or paying for the repairs yourself. They can do tell you the service history of the car and that is about it. There are lots of certified techs that hang out in here...someone will let you know what that code refers to.

I understand that but i just called to get my recall performed and he insisted it had nothing to do with the fuel pump but the recall clearly says that the recall involves the fuel pump

ok. fine. are they taking the car in? If you are in a 2011, that means it is out of factory warranty...recall or no recall, they aren't going to take your car in and fix whatever is wrong with it for free. You are going to have to pay them for the work they do. They will address the software update after your car is running. What exactly do you expect them to do?

If my car had gone out of warranty ...I would be purchasing an extended warranty. You might want to think bout that.

I was under the impression that if there is a recall they perform the work for free . .I just expect them to do the software update on the ecm as the recall states..

Ok...but think this through. You want to take a non starting car into a.Jaguar dealership and have them reflash the ecu. Then what? You will get the.same nonstarting car back? It accomplishes nothing. Get.the.car running first.

Well obviously im hoping them reflashing the ecm will fix my problem thats why i would be taking the car there..my mechanic said i should do this before i start fixing things like the fuel pump that could be over $1000 to fix..

I would go with BritCars initial suggestion and battery first. When my battery went too flat for the car, similar issue to yours occurred. Note the battery might not be flat, but if the XF detects it is below a certain level it will not start and either need charging or replacing.

It is the heaper and quick fix option (if it works) and no harm having a spare battery just in case (I now always keep the spare battery topped up and if the other starts to dip swap and charge.

Hope you sort the issue soon.

Dave
