New (to me) XF 3.0 SC - Coolant Leak Help
#22
I had the same issue after replacing my water pump. Mine is a 2013 3.0 and the pump went out at 45k. After replacing my pump, I had a worse leak than before. I found that I had pinched the O ring between the pump and the plastic tube on the back side which leads to the engine oil cooler. I initially put the O ring inside the female end of the water pump and slid it on the tube. After buying a new O ring, I put it on the male end of the plastic tube and pushed it up all the way to the lip and slid the wp over the tube/O ring. This worked. I highly recommend buying 2 or 3 new O rings and replacing both on the plastic tube ends. I was surprised to see how deformed they got over time. I thought I bought the wrong part as the new O ring has a prominent ridge on it, but the old ones were so smashed over time you couldn't see the ridge any more.

There are 2. One on each end of the plastic tube. Pull the plastic tube off the engine oil cooler and replace the oring on the male end of the metal oil cooler line, then replace the oring on the male end of the plastic tube that slips into the back of the water pump. Seat both orings all the way up against the stop on the male ends and lube the orings so you don't tear or streach them when you assemble it back together. In the attached pic, 5 is the plastic tube, 6 and 2 are your orings (same part number from above). 1 is you engine oil cooler that is located in the valley of the V on your engine. 6 is the side that will slide into the back of the water pump.

Update, i replaced the water-pump today and all the seals including the one on the tube behind it, it is still leaking the same under engine, still cant figure out for sure what it is. After reading online it might be the auxiliary inter cooler pump but i cant seem to find where its located. Any recommendations? anything will help.
