The K063 recall is just for CERTAIN 2009 models (probably based on the VIN) whether in or out of warranty. Sounds like they replace the entire shifter knob unit to prevent lockup. Estimated repair time is one hour. Schedule replacement with an authorized dealer at your earliest convenience. If the car is out of warranty and the unit was replaced at owners cost before the date of the recall letter (9/19/11), an authorized dealer will reimburse the cost if presented with a paid receipt. For any questions regarding this recall program, contact Jaguar at:

Long story, sorry...
I had the circuit board/RTV TCS recall done a long time ago (09XF, 30K miles)). Last weekend I received the recall notice to replace the TCS. Tuesday I made an appt for next week. Wednesday the switch locked up. Fortunately the dealer had already ordered the switch, it got here Fri, and they changed it out in time for me to attend a British Car Show 100 miles away on Saturday.
First tow truck driver had no clue how to get the car out of park. I had a copy of How To Tow A Jaguar Equipped With An Electronic Shift Lever but couldn't get the plastic trim piece loose. Dealer mechanic came to the house and got it out of gear (only a couple of miles away). Then the winch on the tow truck failed and the guy with the replacement truck already knew the transmission release procedure.

Mine did this this morning in my underground parkade just as I was going to reverse into my parking spot.
My shift selector has given no trouble except the once shortly after I bought the car. Since then 3 years and 40,000 km with no trouble.
Gearbox fault is the message. Transmission stuck in drive. Switching off means the car will not restart so if you can just drive the sucker to the dealer without switching off. I could not.
Whatever you do DO NOT put the electronic key fob into the dock below the steering wheel. When locked in Drive this will not come out! I had to remove the emergency hard key (tricky from there) just to lock the car while waiting for the tow truck.
Ironically, this repair was scheduled to be completed last week but postponed because the part had not arrived.

Usually the car switches back to park on it's own even if you shut it off in drive. This didn't happen then? Sorry to hear about the issues. Hopefully it wasn't too much of a pain to get it all figured out. The new part has worked flawlessly in my car (crossing fingers and tapping on wood).
