Oil change Interval no aligned with Mfgr Recommendation
I just took my 2011 XF(5.0 NA) in for "annual" maint last week. I was driving the car this weekend and I notice the service sticker in the window says next oil change is do 12/16/14. That is a 3.5 month maintenance interval. Jaguar manual says min is 1 year or 15K miles. Jaguar North America "recommends" every 6 months.
Sorry to vent a bit but this stuff kind of irritates me. If I change it every 3 months I am spending $750 per year on oil changes(1 included in my platinum service annually and 3 more at $255 each).
Maybe I am paranoid but at that small interval I hardly feel they are trying to "help me out". If they are using oil in my nice car that only lasts a couple thousand miles why on earth would I pay $255 for it!
Does anyone else get these conflicting messages from their dealer? I am going to stick to annual given how little I drive it. Is that a good idea?
BTW...my 2011 only has 18K miles on it. Not a daily driver and the guys at the dealer know that.

I'd go elsewhere for oil changes, $255 is about 3-4x what indys will charge

Given your driving, once a year is a more than good idea. The 6 month recommendation is for "severe service," which you certainly do not have. The stickers automatically are set for 3 months or 3-5000 miles, depending on the dealer, they are to be ignored except by suckers, and the service writers will admit that privately. You probably are using Jaguar of Seattle in Lynnwood, talk to Gabe there. Mine goes in later this week for the 3 year service and I have 35000 miles. More frequent oil changes on such an advanced engine using such a sophisticated oil are pointless but make the dealership owner very glad to see you coming.
Incidentally, please check out the Pacific Northwest regional section of the forum. We have some great Jag drives coming up and would love to have you join the group. I'm tired of being the only XF.
