Default oil filter and drain plg location 2013 xf 3.0

Hi I'm new to the forum and basically new to Jaguar ownership. Love the great cars!! I'm changing the oil for the first time and trying to locate the oil drain plug and oil filter. I have the bottom shield removed and all parts ready to replace but wanted to make sure I don't remove any plugs that would be a mistake.
If anyone has a picture or diagrams to locate these things it would be greatly appreciated.
BTW: I have been working on and restoring older cars for many years so I'm not a newbe around cars.
Thanks in advance.

I think I have asked too soon. After looking around underside and above the engine, I have figured out both the drain plug location and the oil filter location. Because I didn't have my glasses on and it was a little dark outside, I didn't see the obvious location of the drain plug. But I was surprised of the location of the filter canister which is on top of the engine and easy to remove and replace.
Now another question about the oil change process. On this car it doesn't have the obvious dipstick located on the side of the engine reaching down to the bottom of the crank case. What I see is, under the oil fill cap, is a nozzle hose about the diameter of a dipstick, but no dipstick in it. Until I get this car figured out, it is a chore. Thanks for your patience and help.

That tube/hole you see is for pumping the old oil out using a machine. Many mechanics prefer to do it this way as it's quicker and easier than removing the undertray to access the sump bolt.

Thanks OzXFR, OK that makes sense. I think I'm going to do it the old fashion way and remove the drain plugon the boittom of the engine.

Is there a dipstick or a way to check oil level? If so I can't find it.

Thanks OzXFR,
Ok that makes sense, but I'm still curious where the dipstick is located or where can I get an oil level check.

I know it is faster, but I think that it leaves too much of the old oil in the engine. I always ask them to drain it the old fashioned way.

Yep, I've done three oil changes across two XFs and removed the sump plug each time.
There is no dipstick, only an electronic readout which you access by having the ignition on (but not the engine) and toggling the trip computer button. According to the manual this won't work unless you have warmed the engine up then let it sit for 10 minutes, but many have found (including me) that if you pop the hood/bonnet you don't have to wait.

Truly, unless you really like jacking, crawling under the car and taking off undertrays, buy yourself an oil extractor. Not expensive and this is how the vast majority of dealerships do it.

They attach directly to the Jaguar extraction pipe you noticed and that goes down very close to the bottom of the sump. It leaves very little old oil in there.

I bought one like this , only Pela brand.

There is no dipstick.

The oil level is viewed on your dash, electronically by scrolling through the menu using the button on the end of the indicator stalk.
You have to carefully keep an eye on how much oil you're putting in.

Oh, and make sure you get the correct oil. It's very specific.

It's only visible after 20 minutes (from memory) after the engine is shut down.

I've changed it both ways and vacuuming it out only leaves about 1/8 cup of oil in the sump if the car is level when doing it, vs draining it.

True. And really, there's more old oil than that that stays as a film on all interior engine surfaces. Unless you flush the old oil out, (which is done by no shop ever) there is always going to be old oil in there, even if you're patient and let it drain for an hour (which no shop did. ever).

The bit that's left will not effect anything.
More frequent oil changes are the better insurance.

Default oil specs XJ 2013

For my 2013 XJ v6 SC rear wd

The book seems to call for WSS M2C913 - c 5w30

but the oil cap calls for a 2W20 Castrol with no spec mentioned
Castrol web site (and Mobil 1 site) say they do not have an oil for this car.

Assuming it takes a 5W20, What WSS Spec does it need?

The dealer service folks have not been helpful.

That WSS M2C913C 5W30 oil is for the 3.0 litre diesel motor in the XF and XJ, see here: Ford WSS-M2C913-B Engine Oil
For the petrol 3.0 SC the recommended oil is Castrol Edge Professional 0W20, see here: http://www.jaguar.com/about-jaguar/castrol.html
Also see here: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...scsHyRCs5ajZHQ

It is possible that some other 0W20 fully synthetic oils will be suitable, but to my knowledge this has never been confirmed despite numerous similar "what oil should I use" threads across multiple forums. It seems this particular Castrol brew has a specific type and amount of Titanium additive which no other oil has, and it is the only one recommended by JLR for the 3.0 SC.

Thanks for your response
That oil is not available in the USA and a 9W-20 is not recommended anywhere.
I'm having a problem determining the proper oil For my 2013 XJ v6 SC rear wd.
The owner's manual says 5W-30 WSS2C913-C. The oil filler cap says 5W-20 Castrol with no spec mentioned.
Castrol web site (and Mobil 1 site) say they do not have an oil for this car. but on the phone Pennzoil say a 2014 takes WSSM2C925-A.

Assuming it takes a 5W20, What WSS Spec does it need?

The dealer service folks have not been at all helpful.

Thanks for your help.

Doesn't your manual list the oil specs?

The manual lists one oil, the motor oil fill cap and the oil sticker from the dealer list another.
The oli specs changed at the end of 2013. I don't know which year specs I should use.

You seem to be recommending that the Castrol Professional OE oil be used here. I assume that you have changed your opinion since writing this?

Yes, I have changed my mind. I now believe that for the AJ126 and AJ133 petrol motors any fully synthetic 0W20 or 5W20 oil which meets the 925A or 945A spec is perfectly OK, and there is no need to stick to the special Castrol Unobtanium brew just because it has a higher level of titanium than most other oils.
