Default Oil level

How to check oil level 2010 jaguar xf, I tried turning on accesorios and pushed trip meter but it comes up unavailable see handbook???

I'm pretty sure that it has to be done before you drive, or else a considerable time after you've driven, to ensure that the oil is in the sump, for an accurate reason.

As stated in post#2 above and I think the ignition has be fully on, but keep your foot off the brake pedal!!

I think my 2010 XF 4.2L says the same thing on dash display.
I thought it was because it had a regular dipstick to check oil, as per p 183/184 in owners manual.

I assume you did check your handbook and found the explanation that you have to wait 10minutes after the engine was stopped? You can shorten that period by double tapping 'Cancel' on the steering wheel once you get the 'unavailable check handbook' message. I'm not sure if the bonnet has to be open to make this work.

If you still get that message there is likely an issue with the level sensor.

He has the 4.2L. Does that even have the electronic oil level stuff installed? My old S Type with the 4.2L SC just had the standard dip stick to check oil level.

I'd guess so because he says he did get to the Oil Level Menu, it just said 'Unavailable'. That's what you get if you try too early after the engine stopped.
