This can’t be right. I just got this 2011 Jaguar XF Supercharged. A new coolant reservoir was installed, I assume by the previous owner. However, I have had this slow coolant leak and it didn’t take me long to find this hose that it is leaking out of. Shown in second pic (as best as I could), the hose comes off the y junction of another hose that elevates above the air intake (and possibly goes to the throttle body?)... the other end (circled in first pic) just hangs out over to the side, connected to nothing. Again, this can’t be right... can it? I’ve read something on another type of vehicle about something supposedly like this but it just doesn’t make sense to me. Should this be attached somewhere? And where? I thought maybe to the protrusion underneath the power steering fluid reservoir to somehow keep that fluid cooler... but didn’t seem like that would do much lol Any insight?
Hose not attached to anything - open-ended to atmosphere. Dotted line showing route of cooling hose coming from a y-junction on the hose that elevates above air intake.
That doesn't connect to anything. Previous owner must have put hole in that end. I've seen multiple cars with that not connected to anything. I would cap off or replace hose depending on how far you want to go with the repair.
Thanks @Rummy636 ! What’s the purpose of it if it’s just a capped off hose?
Most likely it’s a spot for an additional coolant line for special equipment vehicles. The same as some brake fluid reservoirs that have an extra nipple for clutch master cylinder fluid.
