Default P zero Vs Pilot Super Sport

Hi, Everyone. First post here

So my XFRS came with P zeros as standard Tires. after 12k kilometers let me put it in a nice way but they are pretty much slicks now (Lots of burnouts and car shows attended - surprised they even lasted this long)

the real debate now. I'm going for my first tire switch pretty soon and I really enjoyed the P zeros. I obviously got the car to use its power for its full potential. i was wondered would Pilot® Super Sport tires be a better switch for grip and accelerations. don't have any close racing tracks around me so I don't really care much for that. I just want the best overall tire that grips on accelerations and good conditions.

should I stay and go for the second set of P zeros or try out the Pilot® Super Sport because many have recommended those over the Pirellis.

Thank You.

The super sports are definitely more advanced and a higher performing tire than the P Zeros. Not to say the P's are crap, but they can't outperform the SS's. You won't be anything but happy with them in my opinion. I say go for it.

I would go as far as saying that the P Zeros are actual clown balloons that they wrapped around some nice wheels. They are softer than butter and last about as long as a joint at a Phish concert...lol

PSS are at or near the top of their class in pretty much ever category.

I would also look at the Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position and Conti ExtremeContact DW before considering the PZero.

I'm pretty unimpressed with the P Zero's... I have heard from PSS owners that they are great but low mileage tires. Me? I'd rather have performance over mileage on any *real* car.

PSS gets my vote as well. Second choice would be Bridgestone S-04 and third would be Conti DW. P Zeros are pretty mediocre for the price.

While this may be true, PSS are still the only Max Summer Performance tire with a 30k mile warranty. So premature wear gets you a discount on the next set.

I have had several cars that came with Pirelli P Zeros, and I have been disappointed every time. As a result, I have learned not to touch Pirelli with a ten foot pole. My last set of Pirellis split circumferentially around the tread after less than 2K miles. The Discount Tire (great guys, by the way) manager said he had never seen any thing like it, and contacted Pirelli who offered me a 25% discount on a new set. Needless to say, I told Pirelli where to put their P Zeros (the sun still does not shine there). MPSS are great tires, but don't overlook Hankook Evo V12. Not as good as MPSS (a little softer), but at a very attractive price point, and IMO a better tire than P Zero.

I'd also look at the Bridgestone pole positions. Sounds like you are just going to burn through them anyway so might want to save a few hundred bucks while still getting a great tire.

PSS. They've resided on three of my vehicles in the past couple of years, and will continue to do so. However if you are going to consistently throw down fog with them, you may want to look at other tires and save a few bucks.

I like the "throw down fog" part of that comment

Haha, i probably wont burn as much as i did. i got to experience the personality of the car and when i change the tires, i will be turning down the crazyniess by a mile. they will be lasting much much longer then my first set hopefully.

I had PSS on my Audi S4 and loved them. My XFR came with the Conti DW which I wasn't overly keen on, not needing a winter tire here in Texas. I tried to find the PSS but many dealers (even TireRack) seemed out of stock and no solid lead time which made me wonder if Michelin were phasing them out in favour of their PS2/3

So tracked down a set of Bridgestone Pole at a decent price and so far, very happy with them. Still getting used to the absence of four wheel drive when hitting the GO NOW pedal... ;-)

Just FYI, the ExtremecContact DW is not a winter tire (max perf summer). DW is "dry and wet" where as the DWS is "dry wet snow". I'm sure Texas gets some rain, right?

Yeah sorry my bad - should have said "all season" not winter. Texas only has generally one season - hot and damn hot ;-)

I have Bridgestone S-04 Pole Positions on my XFR and after the first 300 miles or so, they have been terrific. Not as precise and grippy as the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx which I had on before, but cheaper and good enough for daily driving.

Has anyone tried the Yokohama S-Drives?

I had the S drives on an older 911. Good tires for the money, but a bit noisy.
