Painting/wrapping chrome side window trim
The chrome trim around the side windows is driving me absolutely nuts.
I'm curious, have any other members tackled this problem? How did you do it?
Did you mask it off while still on the car and paint? At first this seems like the best option until you get up close to the car and realize that taping it off and then making sure to get paint evenly on all of the surface is going to be pretty difficult.
Did you wrap it? This seems like quite the task too with little room for tucking around edges.
Did you remove it and paint it? How on Earth do you remove the stuff without snapping it?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Yes it is and a pain in the *** to keep from getting dull and cloudy..I used Griot's Complete Compound to polish it out..works amazingly and easy.

Thanks for the clarification however. I'm always happy to learn new things.

Yes it does, as does most all waxes...But once the trim is clouded by the soaps from a drive through brushless carwash, it needs to be polished out with something else besides a wax..the wax just works to coat it and seal it from oxidation

You're a good teacher...now I always refer to it as that. And now I correct others that don't know.

When it comes to Plasti-dip, save yourself a big headache and put bed sheets or buy some plastic drop cloths from Home Depot for a few bucks to cover the whole car when spraying. Plasti-dip travels far and wide, and while it will definitely come off the paint, it's not a lot of fun to remove it as over spray when you could have just put some covers on the car in a few mins.

I have done all the trim on my car and a couple of other friends cars. As long as you have a space without a lot of air movement, I have had zero problems with over spray. You shouldn't be holding the can that far away anyway as you need to lay it on pretty thick to get a nice smooth finish. If you do get any, let it dry and take a microfiber cloth and it comes right off. I actually painted the trim on my STS-V and then you have to worry about overspray a lot more.
