Default Park aid unavailable - contact dealer

Had the above warning, accompanied by long beep sound, intermittently over the past few days. I put the car on my CTek charger overnight last night hoping it was just low battery but it still happened this morning at first start and then the next couple of starts when my wife used the car. I checked for fault codes at the time, found the following:

B1B44 - Rear right outer sensor
B1B46 - Rear right inner sensor
B1B48 - Rear left outer sensor
B1B50 - Rear left inner sensor
B1B57 - Front sensors power circuit
B1B58 - Rear sensors power circuit

I guess after battery then the next thing would be wiring. The car had the GPS aerial replaced a couple of weeks ago, not sure if the garage could have disturbed something then? Any ideas as to where I should be checking for wiring, or fuses maybe?

Basically it seems the parking aid module can't see the sensors.

On my 2008 4.2 model the parking aid module is bolted to the side of the SatNav & DAB in the boot. You may find that they disconnected it to fiddle with feed from the GPS antenna and its either not been plugged back in again properly or they disconnected/disturbed the ground.
Disconnect the battery, pull the connectors to the parking aid module, plug them back in, turn it all back on see if the errors go away.

Thanks for that. Our car is a Sportbrake so the boot is a bit different, I take it on yours the module in question is behind the interior trim on the left-hand side?

Thanks for that. I'll see if I can find that at the weekend.

OK I located and checked the parking aid module yesterday, the cabling looks fine there, disconnected and reconnected all three cables but no difference, I still got warning tones and the message on the TSD, also the light on the button for the park system in the roof module flashes six times on startup or when pressed. So I guess the next thing is to check the loom behind the bumper cover and the actual sensors.

When put my car in reverse to park in my garage, the camera came on and then suddenly shutoff with the parking aid unavailable alert. Then for the next days during the week every time i start the car the beep noise came and parking unavailable.

I planned to take it to service after a week and on the day taking it there the issue was resolved by itself. At the service center they scanned faults, code present for Lost Coms with rear camera and recommended to replace the rear trunk harness as it has issues. I am not sure if this is the same as yours or if its the exact code...but it sounds like it could be related. It sounded like it was loose wiring/shorted somewhere on the harness...

I think its a common issue as everytime you open and close the rubber piping with the wires gets agitated. In my case I am thinking it might be also related to a new subwoofer i installed which probably shook the wires a bit.

Thanks, I have heard of the boot loom issue on the saloon/sedan cars but ours is a Sportbrake, I didn't think they have that issue. Other thing with that I guess, the dealer we bought the car from had to replace the microswitch in the boot release button so I wonder if maybe they didn't reconnect the camera cable correctly. Not sure how to get the interior trim from the tailgate off on a Sportbrake to get at the wiring but that might be the next step.

All the sensors run in sequence, if one fails, they will all not get power. Trick is to find which one failed.

Thanks - any suggestions as to finding the failed one? I've seen other posts where people have had fault codes for only one or two sensors, not all four so I'm still suspecting wiring. Also the fault is intermittent, in the last week it's occurred only maybe three times in I think about 10-15 engine start cycles. If it was a failed sensor the surely it would be all the time?

I'm afraid the only way to check the wiring is to remove both bumpers. Not difficult to do. I've done it before on my own without assistance, so you should be able to do it yourself. With the bumpers off, you can follow the loom to its source to see where it goes, but my guess is, water got in the loom close to one of the sensors and caused this.

Mine does the loud noise when it gets wet. If I've washed the car and sprayed too close to the sensors it will fail for a few days until it dries out, or if I drive through a a large puddle the sensors won't work.

Thanks, so you mean the system fails completely with the accompanying warning on the screen at startup? On my XKR, sometimes when the weather has been very wet or just after washing the car then maybe one of the sensors is active all the time and gives a solid tone when the system is working, but the other sensors all work normally and display correctly on the screen.

Yes, I get the very annoying noise at startup and the sensors and backup camera do not work. Once they dry out, the system returns to normal operation.

Hmm ok thanks for that. I don't think our parking system failures have happened after significant rain and definitely not after washing, I think it was possibly during periods of relatively cold weather maybe.
