Hi Helen, I can't unfortunately comment on the XF, but on other cars I have owned it's generally a faulty parking sensor.
Are we talking front or rear?
From past experience if one sensor goes faulty it throws the whole sytem out..
If its the rear, turn the igntion on ( don't start the car ) and put it into reverse. If you put your ear close to each sensor in turn you may hear a very low tick tick tick ...that should indicate a working sensor.
If you do not hear that then thats your faulty sensor.
Obviously getting any codes read would be the best idea first if at all possible?
Hopefully some of the XF gurus may be along shortly to give you the best advice.
