Default Passenger side Mirror will not dip when reverse is selected

My 2008 xf premium luxury sedan has a problem where the door mounted passenger side rear vision mirror dip is selected on the vehicle operating settings but when I engage reverse gear the mirror does not dip .
Can anyone help and advise how to fix this problem.

My 2009 would never retain the dip setting very long. After a couple of times, it would gradually disappear.

Can you manually control the mirror? Have you tried deselecting the auto dip feature, shift in reverse, park, then reselect auto dip, shift in reverse? Lastly, if you can manually adjust the mirror, I would disconnect the batteries and let the computer reset, preferably overnight. A good old fashioned reboot has been known to cure strange behavior. I would definitely do this last though, as you may lose all your radio and seating presets.

It's probably not lowered enough. Just need to adjust it.

Put the car in reverse, dip the passenger side mirror as much as you want and leave it there. Put it drive it will go back to normal. Back to reverse and it should lower to the position you left it in.

Thanks that is exactly what happens to mine -- I set it and it works once or twice and then it stops dipping altogether but I can manually make it dip by using the door mounted controls .

You can always set the 2nd memory with the mirror down and push the 1st one again so it goes back to normal state.
