Hi, I have a 2011 XF, normally aspirated 5L V8. I recently had the check engine indicator come on. I just acquired an OBD2 reader, hooked it up, and recorded the following:
P0106 (1 of 2) Generic stored
P0106 (2 of 2) Generic permanent.
This error's description is: MAP / Barometric Pressure Circuit Range / Performance Problem

I then erased the codes. My check engine light did not come back on when I restarted the engine. However, when I re-attached the OBD2 reader, the P0106 Generic permanent code was still there.
Should I have this vehicle serviced, or is this something intermittent? My car is out of warranty, so I don't really want to take the care to the shop if it's not broken.
Thanks!
Mark

I doubt it's intermittent as you've cleared the code and it's reset after further drive cycles. This indicates an unresolved and persistent fault.
The 'possible causes' for P010600 are:
1. Intake manifold air leak (loose or missing component)
2. MAP sensor signal circuit fault
3. MAP sensor failure
On several Jaguar models, air leaks are a regular cause of MAP related error codes. Other than that, checking the harness connector is properly engaged and looking for signs of damage to the harness itself will either eliminate the code or point to a faulty MAP sensor.
When the signs point to a faulty sensor, my preferred low cost troubleshooting procedure is substitution with a known good one but this isn't always an available option for many owners.
