Petrol Engine pinging/detonation

All my 5 late Jaguars have had the V8 engine and none of them ever produced pinging or detonation even when I used low octane (US 87) gasoline. I'm sure you know that pinging mean pre-ignition which can put a hole in the pistons if allowed to persist. Have you been using the higher octane gasoline?
This is normally an ignition timing issue, done by the ECU. You many need to have your ECU reflashed by a Jaguar dealer to clear up the problem.

Thanks guys. I have tried everysingle type of fuel allowed, ive added octane boosts, Jaguar have run tests and done updates and resets and nothing. The interesting thing is all the mechanics ive spoken too all say the ping isnt good especially if it worsens and gets
more severe while driving, and since ive started pushing the topic with Jaguar they have stated the pinging is common and normal for my engine. Ive never heard that pinging can be calssified as normal for engines.

They have checked and confirmed, all is as fine and normal for the v6. They say the pinging is normal for all cars this spec but what I know and get told by non dealership mechanics, pinging isn't good for engines and shouldn't be happening esp on this. No matter what fuel they've suggested, software updates etc, it remains and the more I drive it, just gets more noticeable around the low revs....it's really weird hasn't even done 30,000kms yet.

But yea, mechanics come up with the stupidest lies. If they say it's normal, then your car would have made this noise from day 1.

My thoughts exactly and it only stared pinging from about 18000ks. At a real loss at the moment to tell you the truth. I've tried to record it but without physically sticking something in the engine bay, it's a bit difficult. I got Jaguar Australia and UK into it, and they maintain the pinging is normal for this car haha.
