Default POLL: Do your doors/sunroof creak?

I recently purchased a 2012 XF and shortly after the doors/sunroof started creaking when my car goes over uneven surfaces and the body flexes (for example going around parking garages). I brought the car in and they said the seals were dry so they lubricated them. Sure enough the noises went away, but came back after a month. I took it back in and the did the same thing. I'm hoping it lasts this time, but i doubt it.

Ironically, the loaner car they gave me both times was a 2011 XF and that never creaked. Also, I don't recall seeing many folks complaining about it on the pre-2012 models.

Another person with a 2012 XF also posted about creaking so I thought I would start a poll.

NOTE: I am not referring about rattles going over pot holes etc., rather creaking

Yes. The sunroof creak is the hard rubber seal contaminated with dust. In wet weather the squeak goes away only to return when dry. Regular cleaning is the only remedy. I assume some door seals also suffer fom this effect.

Some have reported creaking doors which require lubrication somewhere. Also, some sunroof creaks have been repaired by securing he headliner. Mine is definitely due to dust.

When my sunroof starts creak, I just open it for a minut while I am driving. The noise goes away for another month.

mine creaks and it drives me nuts. my bmw did the same thing, and they finally remedied it using some kind of felt liner on the rubber seals.

Yes, mine does and is driving me crazy. I took it in about 2 weeks ago and was told the car wash I go to had lubed up the door seals so much that it caused them to creak. They removed all of the residue left behind and lubed the seals with something more appropriate. That lasted a little over a week and started again. Car is going back to the shop tomorrow. This never happened in my 2009 XF and I am not happy at all.

.
Mine started just recently and it is quite pronounced now...just the sunroof...not the doors. When I push on the roof a tiny bit with my fingers from the inside it makes the noise. I just noticed tonight in the rain....silent. Even pushing on it its silent. Its going into the dealer tomorrow..hope it isn't raining. Jagular how do you clean the seals...when the roof is partially open to give access you cannot get at the full perimeter. Or do you stick something down in the crack with the roof fully closed?

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but does anyone know what type of lube to use, and where on the doors one should be applying the lube to get rid of these door creaks? I don't want to have to go to the dealer to do something which i'm hoping takes 2 seconds to fix.

Don't be at all, Searching is encouraged.

Here is what you need...
Amazon.com: SILGLYDE LUBE COMPOUND-- 8 OZ.: Automotive Amazon.com: SILGLYDE LUBE COMPOUND-- 8 OZ.: Automotive
Just apply it to the sun roof seal with your finger and it will keep the creaking away for 3-4 months. No need to bring it to the dealer.

The creaking can be extremely annoying, considering it's coming from a $70,000 car.

I would read through this as well.... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...e-98403/page3/

Mine was creaking really bad. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the seal under warranty. No more creaking. Been 3 months.

Glad to hear that worked for you.

They had replaced the seal on mine too, but the noise came back after 3-4 weeks later. Been applying the Silglyde since and no problems so far.

No problem. It's going to be an enjoyment not having to hear to creakes.

The creaking is actually the seals being broken on the doors, trunk, and sunroof. Jaguar investigated and discovered it occurs when a silicone lubricant (like Armor All) is used. You can actually just use a clean, dry cloth and wipe down the sealants. Adding more lubricant just makes it worse. Problem solved but drove me nuts for nearly a year.

You'll have to wipe them down every time it is detailed by someone other than you. They don't know about the problem and it does no good trying to explain it to them.

I had the sunroof rattle, but it was fixed by the dealer. They said something about new clips. It's dead quiet now.

I fixed a rattle in my driver door that's been driving me mad, but now that I fixed it, the car is unbelievably pleasant to drive.

Love this XF.

JaguarUptown, thanks for the tip. I wiped down my door edges/seals with windex and the creaking went away. I ordered the silglyde as well just in case in the event the creaking comes back.

I have a few other minor issues (brakes groaning when coming to a stop/first starting to move), a faint creaking noise coming from the front left suspension on bigger bumps, and a minor rattle coming from the passenger door. Hoping to have all of them squared away so that my car will be 100%!

My 10 did very badly. It is documented on this site a year ago.

After a half dozen trips to the dealer, they finally fixed the sunroof issue with some foam blocks.

Now it is as it should be, quiet.
