Default Pressing start button is this right

Hi all
Had my xf 3.0d for about a week and am very happy with it but one thing is bugging me.as far as I can see in the manual if you press the start button once with your foot on the brake it should switch the ignition on and then start the car.
But with mine I have to hold the button down to start it is this ok or is there something not right with it.

Many thanks in advance.

Pressing the start button with your foot not on the brake pedal turns the ignition on but does not start the car. Pressing the start button with your foot firmly on the brake pedal starts the car. But you need to press and hold it for a second or so, not just press then let go. Sounds like yours is working as it should.

In the cold weather it will take longer to start as the glow plugs need to do their work.

Yes, it's normal like that. Especially with a cold engine a long press is needed. In extreme cold even that may not start the crank but a second long press is needed. With a warm engine usually just a short touch on the button will start the engine.
