Default Project SV8

So whilst we have been in lockdown, I decided it was now a good time to do a few things to the SV8 to pass the time. Apologies the car is so dirty in the pics!

Things completed pre lockdown:
1) Spires exhaust
2) De-chrome

Things completed so far during lockdown:
1) Rear valance changed to XFR style
2) Front grille changed to black
3) EBC discs and pads
4) Eibach Pro springs
5) H&R wheel spacers

Things in progress:
1) Meth injection. Have got all the pipes run from the boot to the engine bay. Completed the wiring and installed the tank in the boot. Also installed a low level Led in the dash to the side of the vent. All that needs doing is to connect the pipe to the inlet. That will be done after item 2 is complete

2) Removed supercharger and sent it off to Powerhouse to have the smaller 10% pulley put on, have it rebuilt and Stage 2+ ported. Got it back yesterday, so will be refitting this weekend

3) Air intake- I have got the range rover upper intake tube. This has a large opening than the Jag one for some reason. Will then get a custom pipe made to connect that to the airboxes. As I want more charger noise I may change to induction cone filters, however make sure I shield them properly from the rest of the engine bay and run some better cold air feeds to them. The range Rover one also has fins, which I assume is to help with cooling

4) Split open lights and painted the inside black. Just need to finish sealing them and then bolt them bakc in place. In the photo below I have just roughly placed them in to get an idea of whta they will look like

5) Upgrade intercooler pump- This pump apparently has abut 10% higher flow rate. As it is primarily used by merc, I orderderd the connectectors from merc and picked them up yesterday, so will be getting that put in tomorrow too

6) General service, oil change etc

7) Refurb wheels- Got this booked in for Tuesday nextweek. Had it booked in but it got cancelled due to lockdown

Things getting done soon:
1) 200 cell cats
2) Replace the centre section with an X-pipe.
3) Custom remap

I'll update this page with progress pics as they happen!

Which motor, 4.2 or 5.0? And where were the pictures taken?

I think from the picture of the intake and the blower he must have a 4.2L but he did not say for sure.

Exactly. The SV8 was a specific model in the very early days of the xf using a slightly adapted xkr 4.2 supercharged engine

that engine was just a bit too old and inefficient. It really should never have been in the XF and really was only a stop gap until the 5.0 was ready.

People ask why I spend money on the SV8 rather than just getting the 5.0. Well quite simply I fell in love with the SV8 and don’t want to sell it. I also love the subtlety of the SV8, other than the wheels it’s hard to tell it apart from the smallest spec Diesel engine unless you are in the know.

1)unless you know
2) if you are not deaf

I have put in my sv8 cost of 5.0sc car. basicaly i used XFR and XFR-S cars and build them on to 4.2 chasis. all front and brakes are from xfr-s 2014 , interior are all xfr 2013,

****! That looks like a lot of work! What’s your reason for opting for the 4.2 rather than just going for the facelift and 5.0 sc?

what was the reason?

1) i like robust engines
2) i like sound of indirect injection engines its absolutely lovely. i put all exaust system from XFR and to be honest i prefer genue. that silent muted low frequency rumble is perfect. all car covered with 2 to 6 layers of ultralight sound dampening material. i barely can hear anything from the outside, including engine. that is not bad at all to me.

what i did not liked about 4.2sc
1) open diff. its a joke ( like 1600hp AWD car)
2) outdated interior
3) supercharged and cooling system. its very complicated. i already working on putting whole 5.0sc system to my 4.2 . 4.2 charger system is very vry complicated with lot of unnesesary parts, tons of hoses , having TB on the back and rectricted airflow. heat and mechanical looses are also bad. i had 3psc xf 4.2sc and after 5500rpm all of them becomes lumpy- does not make power like 5.0sc.

for the short moment i wanted to drive f-type 5.sc but it wa to hard sustpension and ver non comfortabile seats. get back to my trusty sv8 with a joy.

The engine is awful to work on. Getting the charger out is one of the worst jobs I have ever done. Second time was okay as cut a slot in the charger where it goes over the rear bolt under the TB elbow. I’m fitting the Range Rover upper intake tube as it’s larger and flows better into the TB. Also the meth should massively help with the cooling issues.

Have you seen AVOS and his TS install?
He is pushing 600+ HP from the old 4.2L!

Default Open Diff/LSD

If you don't like the open diff in the SV8, the XKR LSD fits nicely, had it done on my SV8.

where did you find the xkr diff and how much was it.
thanks in advance 👍
