Default Purchasing an XF, help needed.

Hi to all,
I have never driven a Jag before but I just might soon, but I need some user experience guidance from people droven this particular car:
XF 2013/2014 3.0 petrol supercharged - it has 340 hp and it is a rocket.

If someone here has had any experience can he or she be that kind to share it with me - to know what to look for, potential problems etc.

Thanks in advance.

Not directly on point to "what to look for," but Maroneylabels .com (remove the space) will create a window sticker, including options, for around $8 US. I found it helpful in dealing and discussing with dealers/sellers what, exactly, the various copies I was looking at actually had, vs what they thought it had.

It's a bit more comprehensive than the vin search function on this board (which is FREE - see https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/vindecoder.php), I have no connection with them, I simply have found it useful in shopping used cars,

An example of the difference is my car is optioned with Blind Spot monitoring, which shows on the maroneylabels paid decode, but for the life of me I can't find on the free vin decoder, but as always, YMMV.

Give us some information about the car you're going to get (mileage, options, condition, service history). That would give us somewhere to start.

Hi Doomsday, as Pab mentioned, if you can give us the Specs of the unit your looking at, we could be more helpful. I own a 2014 3.0 SC and have for two years. I had a few issues with it but the major ones were more a cause by the dealership which later were covered without out-of-pocket expense from me. Mine is just over 80,000Km and is a daily commuter for my wife. Used summer and winter.

Hi guys,

Thanks to all for your time and responce.

As I am based in Europe , that specific engine is pretty rare here - I can find only handfull of adds for car with that engine being sold.

The current one which I am looking to buy is an XF 3.0S/C 2014 - it has 150,000 km (which would be close to 90,000 miles for all you accross the Atlantic).

It has only 1 owner - which happens to be a friend of a friend , the car has always been serviced in official Jag service.

It has the sport package R - bumpers, skirts etc. I also called my local dealer to ask what would be the maintance which would be needed at this mileage such as timing chain, S/C chain, gearbox oil change etc and they told me that they only need to be monitored and only if they show signs of wear/stretch then chains need to be taken care off. However about the gearbox - it is ZF 8 speed auto - all car manifacturers which use it claim it is non-serviceble, but this is not true as ZF recommends their georbox to be serviced every 80,000-100,000 km depends ot driving.

Here are few pics of the car:

Would be gratefull for any info or opinion which you can provide.

Cheers,

You can check the service history and details on what should be carried out here: https://osh.jaguar.com/
On https://webcat.zf.com/ you will find an oil chnage kit including new cover, filter and oil for the ZF gearbox.

What you really want to check if there's any sign of coolant smell or and remains of dried out coolant here:
.
This is not something covered in the regular service and if these tubes fail it usually ends up with a catastropic engine failure. Note that this image shows the later, enhanced version of the tubes, which hopefully will not fail anymore.

Cheers
Chris

I'd certainly have someone qualified inspect the cooling system. That could be a real go-on go for that car.

But sure, have the ZF serviced, can't hurt

Default Another thing to check...

Along with looking at the coolant pipe shown in the previous post, if you can, take the car to a shop and have it put on a lift.Drop the undertray from the belly of the car and look for sign of coolant dripping onto the transmission from above. It should also show up in the undertray as staining to ether side of the transmission. The coolant pipe at the back of the heads for the heater is also very prone to splitting and leaking at about 42 to 45 thousand miles with similarly tragic results. If there's any sign of this leakage and the pipe is not shown to have been replaced it should be top of your list of things to get done. Other than that little landmine I have had no trouble with my car, it's a joy.
