Rear axle leak please help!
#21
Looks like my vin number is in the range provided above. Makes sense since my diff is eating pinion seals one after the other. It's strange that the dealer mentioned to me multiple times that all of the recall work on my car was done however I guess this is a tsb as opposed to a recall.
Anyone have luck getting an upgraded diff comp'd under this tsb?

Good luck getting Jaguar to fix your rear diff. I was pretty much told to pound salt 10K Canadian fix to update to the redesign. I could NOT find a diff to fit this car ANYWHERE I even was calling shops over in UK nodda! No aftermarket stuff, no re built stuff and any shops I called about used parts said these things don't last an hour on their shelf.

Mine goes in for new seals tomorrow. I'll hold out as long as I can just replacing seals while looking for a post R41865 diff from a wreck.

My local non-Jaguar mechanic replaced the seal and refilled the axle area for $325 - not bad by my figuring.
Thanks for the update. So what did you wind up doing? I've been discussing the issue with a local Jag mechanic. He told me that one of his customers got Jag Canada to comp a new diff after TONS of complaining.

That's basically what I'll be paying. $320 incl tax. I'm curious to see how long it lasts. I believe they are replacing the output shaft seal. A couple years ago I did both the output shaft and pinion seal. Seems like the pinion seal has held up (I recall my mechanic replacing it last time just because he had everything apart).

well there's bearing play on my passenger side shaft. Replaced that seal 6 weeks ago and there's another leak from that same spot but this time it's due to the bearing play. My mechanic says the diff has to be replaced.
There didn't seem to be a lot of play so I'm hoping to hold out for awhile until I can source a good used diff. Would it be unwise at all to drive with that bearing play for the next little while as long as the gear oil is kept topped up?
