Default Rear number plate lights and boot release button not working

I've tried new bulbs but no joy, also the button that releases the boot doesn't work so I have to use the fob. I've done a Google search and it seems there can be damage to the boot wiring although the rest of the lights on the boot work. Any ideas?

Yep, odds on one or more wires in the boot loom has broken or worn through.
It's a fairly straightforward job to repair or replace this loom, see here: How to Change Boot Lid to Boot Loom
Repair is virtually free but there is always the risk that some other wire(s) will break down the track, a new loom is not all that expensive.

Make sure you read right through to the end of that thread.
In the very last post you will see that the loom for the "facelift" (which you have) is a different part number to the loom for the "classic", and you want part number C2Z19978 (if you have a reversing camera).
