Hi forum members, im a recent XF owner (almost 6 months now)
I have a 2010 XF Premium Portfolio (Black/spice)
Back in december i was christmas shopping and went to a busy mall in my area..later that evening i noticed the front passenger side front bumper was popped out...i popped it back in and it looks normal...but now im having sensor issues
The next day, i started to get "Bonnet open" and it hasn't gone away..any idea what i should check? i've been locking the car with the mechanical key since i've just never had the time to bring it in.
Now as of yesterday evening, i was parking the vehicle in my garage and i got "parking aid disabled" the camera still works.
I am guessing one of the sensors has gone bad, but any idea why "bonnet open"?
Anything i should test/check myself before bringing it in?
btw...i LOVE my XF it's the best car i have ever owned!

Still under warranty? Can't you just take it in and have them replace it?
Sorry I cannot provide any value to your question but just curious about the warranty aspect of things.
Sorry another thing, I know you said it is a "hit and run" but with no marking on the bumper and a sensor failing seems like could be a warranty claim...just my thought anyway.

There is a hood sensor on each latch. You could pop the hood and look down into the latch area. There is a contact sensor that is pressed when the hood is shut. It may have broken and fallen off on that side you saw the bumper pop out. If you are getting that error you can't lock your car so be careful. When I was in a minor fender bender I had to wrap some tape around the sensor so the warning would go away until I could get it into the shop.

@AaronW I should have specified in my original post that my warranty is expired, or else i would have done exactly as you suggested and just had the dealer replace everything under warranty. Thanks for the response though.
@Blackcoog Thanks for the information! i will definitely check that out, i was looking for a normal hood sensor in the engine compartment like almost all cars out there...should have figured it would be something fancier on this car. I'll update on what i find. I have been locking the doors with the mechanical key but i dont think the alarm functions with this type of locking, so i have been paying for parking almost every day to make sure it is within eyesight of my work at all times

When my X Type had a similar issue on the rear bumper it turned out the wiring connector to the sensor had come loose as a result of the impact. Simple to fix. If the sensor itself was damaged then this is also relatively easy and cheap to replace.
Finally, hit and run damage should be covered by your comprehensive (glass, theft and vandalism) coverage. I carry a smaller deductible for this part of my coverage as the cause of loss is entirely beyond my control. Also, claims under this coverage should not affect your claims experience assessment of premium as it isn't your driving that is to blame.

@Jagular would the connector be close to the battery by any chance? The trunk was vacuumed for spilled sugar a couple of hours earlier and I'm sure the car wash guy went under the flip up compartment.
@AaronW 4 years/80,000km ... Mine has over 80,000km so it is expired. The vehicle is a 2010 but has been in service since July/August 2009. If you walk into a Hyundai or Kia showroom in the next couple of months you may notice they'll be pushing 2014 models.

Ahh yes I knew that you would get it mid-late the year prior to the model but didn't think as early as March of prior year. It's interesting because my 2009 went into service September 2009. I only have 45,000 km's on it though so I still have a bit longer till warranty is up (sorry to rub it in haha).
