Reduced Performance Light - Timing Chain??

So we have the 2011 XF with 68K miles to the dealer for reduced performance. We have the 5.0L engine, running fine with no noises. They say timing chain replacement, $6,500 ($3,500 parts and 20 hrs at $135/hr).
This seems like a gouge to me. , chain, guides online are about $1,500. Am I right on this?
Does this engine have a problem with timing chains? Doesn't seem like it should be worn out at 68K, especially since it hasn't been run all that hard.
Can a worn/loose chain with the engine running fine with no noises will generate a Reduced Performance Light???
How long should a replacement take? Does 20 hrs seem right?
Any help on this greatly appreciated!

If you're out of warranty, you really should do everything you can to avoid the Jaguar dealership. Definitely changing a timing chain is something an independent Jag specialist can handle.
Yes, the timing chains do a lot more work in the direct injection engines of today driving the high pressure fuel delivery, and they can wear out much faster than previous generations of engines. And 2011 is in the model years with the problem with the tensioner having issues.
If the timing chain skipped a tooth, I can see that causing a reduced performance condition.

I'd get a second opinion, The Jag AJ133 is an interference timed engine (If you loose timing the valves will hit the pistons, and you pretty much would have a big paper weight.) so if your timing chain had jumped you would be getting some bad noises, that is if the car even ran at all.
Ask them for the fault codes the car should be throwing too.

I had the timing chain, tensioners, etc replaced under warranty (Car was CPO). The dealer told me it would have been a $6500 job, so your quote seems in line. The tensioners have been upgraded from the originals on the 2011 engine.
They also replaced the water pump, quite a few gaskets, actuators, etc. and did an oil change.
