Default Regarding DRL-sorry

I went through the search engine and did not find the answer to my question. How do you attach the positive leads (of DRL) to an ignition fuse holder when the only one there is being used....this is an 09 Supercharged. The fuse box shows that the only one left is a D2 with no visible electrical tabs. I also assume that since the battery is in the trunk that a tight engine screw/bolt wil do for the negative attachment. I saw the photo in the search library where the attachment was made at the ignition fuse location but that lay-out is different from mine (a lot of fuses missing there....comparatively ) Thanks

I am going to partially answer my own question. If someone knows this territory better, than by all means speak up. I found in the fuse box under the hood that everyone of the exposed electrical tabs to be hot with the engine off. This was determined with a volt meter (grounded to an engine bolt) I then tried the least important fuse.....the power wash for the headlights.....and found that the 12 volt current was off when the engine was off. So now I have to figure out how to combine the DRL positive wire with the above mentioned fuse.
CORRECTION: The workable fuse was not the powerwash one for the headlights but the 5 amp fuse for headlight leveling ! Am I testing these fuses or relays incorrectly ??

The DRLs use very little energy. You could just do a wire tap with an inline fuse on any available circuit. I would try to find one that was hot only when the engine was running so the DRLs would not come on in the ACC mode.

Thanks ......now to find and trace the wiring from the fuse box (the 5 amp for headlight leveling) and tap it. Would not the 5 amp fuse then become a protection for this new line as well (to the DRL) ?

Or... you could take it to the dealer had ask them to reprogram it. They might even do it for free if you are a regular customer.

When I add anything electrical, I always add an inline fuse just to be on the safe side.

I'm assuming he is adding aftermarket LED DRLs. If not, then you have advised him well to have the dealer program the OEM setup.

YES......I was considering aftermarket but if the dealer can re-program for DRL then fine (on a 09 XFSC ) however, would that mean that the low beam headlights would be on all the time while driving ??

Yes, along with all the other night running lights.

When reprogrammed for DRL the lights that will be on are the low beam headlights, front side lamps, side marker lamps, tail & number plate lamps. On the 2009 the ignition must be on, the gear selector out of park and the parking brake NOT applied (therefore, you have to have someone else help you check their operation). Yes, the low beams would be on all the time (as required in countries that require DRL), but I believe they run at a lower voltage in DRL mode.

He has an XF-SC that has the Xenon low beams. They will operate at full voltage and brightness. BTY, I just remembered that only a certain range of VIN numbers for the 2009 model were able to be programmed to enable DRLs. His dealer will have to contact Jaguar to see if the vehicle is programmable.

Thanks for all the replies......if what you say is true, I am not sure I want all that light......I have enough trouble with the center screen telling me I have a low battery as it is.....don't think I need more drain on the battery. And BTW has anybody tried to route wiring thru the front of the car to the fuse box ? There is not a single opening or space for running wires up through the front from the lower grills.

Mine is a very early 2009 XF-SC and the DRL is programable. Any car sold in North America will be able to have the DRL activated (or deactivated).

For the models from 2010 on that's probably true. Mine was a very early 2009 and it was progamable; however Jag told the techs that the option was suppressed in some later 2009 VINS and could not be activated.

I installed aftermarket Philips DRL8's on my '11 XFR, just for looks (I love them and will be installing them on my '12 RR Sport Supercharged, as well). Unfortunately, the only pix I have are crap, as they were taken from my phone. But, if you'd like me to get some better ones, or need me to revisit wiring and then post, please let me know.
