Default Remarkably short service interval

Hi all,
Bought my XF Diesel S at the end of August. At the time there was a "Service" warning and I asked the dealership (not a Jag dealership) to attend to it. They said they did.
Shortly after I started getting the DPF Filter error and in October this threw the car into limp home mode. I took it back and their mechanics charged me $800 for another service. This was mid October. I was very annoyed but decided then and there to go to a dealer next time.
Now, mid February, and less than 3,000 km later, the car is throwing up a warning saying a service is now due. To make matters worse, less than 2 weeks ago, the car's warning system was saying a service would be required in 2,000 km. I have driven the car twice since that warning - 50 km.
Is this normal? I have to say its very annoying - especially after being with reliable cars before this. Any advice would be appreciated.

I was kind of in the same boat, my car currently says it's due for service in 50 miles however I've only had it 7 months and it has under 5,000 miles on it and my service book says the first one is due at 16,000 miles. My car was manufactured in December of 2012 but the dealership said that has nothing to do with it and that it goes by the sale date, but I'm thinking the computer is probably programmed at a certain point(maybe upon delivery to the dealership?) to start the clock. Long story short, my dealership told me to disregard the message and bring it in when it's been about a year since I got the car.

No, not at all normal. Even in periods of mostly short trips during winter I have not had less than 8000km between oil changes. First of all, have you made long or short journeys? Do check the oil level. The engines should not be filled much beyond the low mark to allow for diesel contamination rising the oil level during regeneration. Also check the smell of the oil on the dip stick, does it smell strongly of diesel? Then have you smelled the burnt rubber characterising an interrupted regenerating cycle when going out of the car?

Next, Put it in S mode and go for a minimum 30 mins fast drive. During periods of few or no longish trips I put it in S mode all the time. Burns a bit more fuel but saves me having to go for a motorway trip once a week to ensure the DPF is cleaned out.

With a diesel you ignore the warning at your peril. The system monitors among other things your driving pattern, regeneration attempts and more. A few months ago I looked into the workshops of my local specialist, and lo and behold three wrecked V6 diesels where the owners had ignored the maintenance warnings.

Even at low miles an annual oil change is "recommended". Same is true for MB, BMW and Porsche. The light will come on whether you have the miles or not. My XF had 11k when I bought and was 2 years old, service light came on in the first month. But with service included what do I care.

Oh I'm sure the service for my car and your car should be taken differently but I thought maybe his was the same case as mine. With mine it would say service due in X miles and then when I didn't drive it for about two weeks it automatically changed.

Fairly well known for diesel jags. The dealers don't tend to mention such as they just want a sale.

You will have to know exactly what the status is. So monitor oil level and quality. Then you can go for an annual service. Of course the DPF and sooting of egr valves does come into it hence my choice of S mode. That way it gets up to operating temp less slowly.
