Default Road Springs

All I can say is don't break one. I have a 2.7 diesel with a broken rear spring, which shouldn't really be a problem to buy a new one and fit. No chance, there are no springs in the UK from Jaguar or anybody else. I have been waiting 8 days as Jaguar said that was the time scale for a new supply to come in. So phone today, no they haven't got any and have no clue as to when they will get any more, but they did give me the phone numbers of 5 dealers that they say have them in stock. I just persuaded a dealer in York to send me his one and only spring, down to North Devon so should get it tomorrow. What a joke, with the state of the roads in the UK garages, are spending a lot of time replacing broken springs so why aren't Jaguar keeping a stock of such a basic item. Oh well rant over, I might have my car back at the end of the week.

I find it hard to believe that nobody has coil springs for a Jaguar XF. Other than 2.7 diesel, you didn't tell us the year of the car so I'm guessing 2008-2009.

I got plenty of hits in the UK when I googled Jaguar XF springs. https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/...c9/24477-2-7-d

Your first mistake was going to the dealer.

I also remember reading that springs, shock absorbers (dampers), etc., should be replaced in pairs.

Hi STUG. Unfortunately, you get lots of hits for Jag springs, with the proviso that there is a 2-3 day wait, they do not keep them in stock and surprise surprise they get them from Jaguar so they haven't got them, this is well-known specialist Jag dealers like SNG Barrat, Rimmers, Berkshire Jags,et all. Eibach is a good make but they tend to specialize in lowering springs and not your bog-standard ones. So, in other words, there are no rear springs in the UK other than a couple that main dealers have and they don't want to sell them on to individuals, I know because I have phoned everywhere, and yes you should replace springs as a pair but if you can't get a pair you can't replace them as a pair. I was thinking of buying a used spring just to get me mobile, before I found my spring. Yes it is a 2008-2009 2.7 deisel but I am sure the spring is going to be the same on most XFs. Cheers Keith

There are companies that will make custom wound springs and its surprisingly reasonable cost. I remember watching an episode of Wheeler Dealers years ago when they were still back in England and they had a full set of custom springs wound for some small car they were working on (I've forgotten which model it was). They did a short film segment about the process. Whatever company that was, I bet they are probably still there or another company like it. But the way they work, you send in your original springs for them to get the physical dimensions and test the spring rate, then they can either make an exact copy or you can specify you want your car to be lower, higher, ride softer or harder or whatever and they can make a modified version. I would imagine they could work from a broken spring. If any of us are ever truly stumped for replacement springs that are obsolete and out of stock, its another option.
